How self defense can help us?

I read a news from Facebook about a Brazilian girl attacked by two muggers. She was walking on her way to her practice when these two muggers attacked her and grabbed her phone. She then defends herself and knocked the other one while the other mugger ran away with her phone. She then performed the "triangle chokes' where she wraps her legs around a person's head and choking them out for 30 minutes. The mugger was crying for help and even asked someone to call her Father and shouts "mom help me!" 30 minutes later the police come to the scene and arrested the mugger.

Learning self-defense is very important. I won't be surprised if the Brazilian girl knows jiu jitsu or even luta livre. Here in the Philippines, it is important to know self-defense, especially for women.

She was lucky, because even if you know self-defense, one woman against two men, can easily be knocked down.

@LadyDuck Yes, if we are lucky to defend ourselves but if not, because they have these harmful things. Well, I'd rather give them my phone instead of risking myself.

yes there are more posts on FB about self-defense. have you seen that one lady walking while she was using her phone, and a motorcycle with 2 men suddenly grabbed the cellphone? you know what the lady did? she pulled off the man (who grabbed her phone) until the man fell down the motorcycle. then she kicked the man. even the driver was also kicked by the victim.
