The Cookout Was Great, Until…
Everyone was having a really good time. The food was great and everyone was enjoying the yard games. I sat on the screened porch with some friends and we were enjoying watching the games and enjoying the nice weather. It was about six o’clock by then and we had put away the food and were just starting to wind things down.
And then, all of sudden, my 11 year old great grandson, who was skate boarding in the garage with others came running around the house screaming and holding his left arm. Everything stopped immediately and all attention was on him.
His wrist was definitely injured. So, at first, they thought it was just sprained. He had fallen and tried to catch himself and landed hard on his left hand. He was in a lot of pain.
They decided to take him to an Emergency facility. With it being a holiday, they wondered what would be available.
So, later we got the news. He has actually broken the growth plate in his left wrist. They put a temporary cast on his arm and today he will be seeing an orthopedic surgeon. My granddaughter sent a couple photos on Instagram of him with his cast and sling.
I feel so sorry for him, but I have warned them and warned them about skateboarding. I don’t know who invented the darn things, but I hate to think how many children have been injured. I think they should be banned. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks. He's young and should heal quickly, but I understand that a growth plate injury can be very serious.

He was in a lot of pain and didn't want anyone to touch it. I wonder what happened at the emergency room when they had to move his arm in order to X-ray it?

@IreneVincent He must be in excruciating pain. He might've screamed. I had broken my arm once, when I was little. Poor kid.

That's how my son broke his arm around that same age, trying to break his fall with this hand. This is a very common injury for those who skateboard. Too bad your GG will have a cast in the summer, it'll be kind of miserable. My son was scheduled to go on a cruise with his grandparents a week after he broke his arm and missed a lot of activities due to the cast. Still, it was a great experience and at least it wasn't hot.
I hope your GG heals quickly!
