*Don’t stoop down so low.

--- Because you might strain your back. That was what happened to me yesterday. My son bathed 2 of the dogs, and it was my responsibility to dry and brush their fur. Xander was the 1st dog that I groomed. He sat on a chair at the veranda while I stooped to reach him. My son offered a wooden stool for me to sit on but I replied it was just a quick act, so I declined. After a few minutes, I finished brushing Xander’s hair so I straightened my back. I heard a soft cracking sound, and then I cannot stand straight. I had to go to an old woman to be massaged; the ache is still here. I am applying warm compress so the nerves will not swell or get inflamed. I also took a tablet of analgesic. Now, the pain scale is still at 4/10 (0 as the lowest and 10 the highest). Stooping down is not good when somebody bullies us and he is not worth it. But stooping so low is also not advisable because we can hurt our back.

When I was young I injured my back due to some sport activities. Although I had therapy the back pain would recur from time to time. This is the reason I became conscious of proper posture so as not to hurt my back. If I am in a sitting or lying position I don't get up abruptly. I take the time to adjust to the new position. I hope your "manghihilot" was able to lessen your discomfort. A pinch nerve of the spinal is much worse than a toothache.

the 'manghihilot' is now old, and she cannot press harder the muscle when the nerve is located. i as walking like an old woman, kyphotic, because the pain was unbearable. now, i am fine, and i and son even went to the city this morning. the worse is if the nerves will harden and the blood supply will be impeded. when i get up of bed, i usually turn to my left and lift myself to sit on bed before i finally stand.

@ridingbet Things happen when we age. Not too many good things either, unfortunately.

@DianneN the worse getting old, based from what i read on FB, are some old people, parents in particular, are left alone by their children. it would be nicer if they bring their parents to a nursing home, but what annoys me is when these shameless people leave their parents alone in a house, until some good Samaritans assist them.

Funny that you should start this discussion as I am now as I type this having spasms in my back. they started just before I left my house for work. I could barely move. that was just before 11p- I took 4 ibuprofen. And I was having spasms the whole ride in like every few seconds. I couldn't steer without the spasms starting again.. I somehow made it in to work and i have been sitting here for an hour now and I think they should have stopped but NO... they are still going on. I can barely move with out it starting more spasms.. it has eased up a little since it started but not enough. Ouch!

@minx267 could it be because you have a low potassium level in your blood?

ibuprofen is contraindicated to me because it makes the blood less viscous. i am taking an anticoagulant, so ibuprofen adds to the anticoagulant effect of Coumadin. i hope the spasms of your body is gone now. may i ask why you had spasms?

it worked, my friend. i did all independent management like putting on a lumbar brace, applying warm compress, and taking naproxen tablet at night.

Putting the load on legs is what we are advised. Sitting on our haunches is what it is. Get well soon

good body posture should always be observed especially if we are already in our late adult life for fear of osteoporosis.

At first I thought you are talking about stooplng to the level of some body. Only then I undestkod the true relevance.Either way stooping too low is going to hurt us.

yes, stooping down to people who are not at level with us; and stooping low so as not to break out backbone.
