Seattle Mariners first baseman Danny Valencia has tied the team record for consecutive base hits on plate appearances. Valencia had nine straight base hits in nine straight plate appearances that began on Friday in a three game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Valencia had two straight base hits on Sunday to tie former Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez before on his tenth plate appearance, he was not able to get a base hit since he popped out to a Rays fielder during the game on Sunday. Valencia was traded by the Oakland Athletics to the Seattle Mariners for right handed pitcher Paul Blackburn in November 12, 2016. Valencia, 32, who signed a one year, $5.5 million dollar contract with the Mariners in January 2017 will become a free agent at the end of the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Valencia is basically auditioning for a job in the Major Leagues in 2018 playing baseball for the Mariners in 2017. Valenica is hoping to impress the Mariners and other teams in the Major Leagues by playing his best baseball this season.

Nine consecutive hits in nine at bats is impressive. Bumped up his BA.
