Writer's Block? Ideas are like Clouds

cloud watching

Do you cloud-watch? Among the fond memories I have of my youth were the times I had with my mom guessing what the shape of clouds look like. When my grandchildren were younger, we also had a lot of fun watching clouds. "Look, look grandma!" my grandson would excitingly point up to the sky, "It's a white kitten wagging it's tail" "No, it's a Capuchin monkey pulling on Donald Trump's hair" I imagine I would have respond. In one discussion I read, the author ask the question, "Should I post this discussion or wait for a better idea?" Either he was baiting for comments or wasn't satisfied with what he wrote and thought he could do better. Where do you get ideas for your discussions? There's nothing wrong with "fluff" post about the "stuff" we do regularly. But we can make it more interesting and enjoyable for the reader by seeing the extra-ordinariness in the ordinary. Be like children watching clouds. Photo Image: Wikipedia Here is a beautiful song by Joni Mitchell about looking at clouds and life

I agree, there is no need to wait until we have a great idea. No matter what comes to our mind can be an interesting discussion. I wait too much and my ideas dissolve like the clouds in a summer sky.

@josie_ If you wait for something perfect, you will wait all your life.

@LadyDuck _There will never be a perfect moment or perfect time to do the things you want to do. Sadly many only realize this when it's too late.

@LadyDuck _The problem is with those perfectionists who are waiting for the perfect cloud.

@Ceerios _They're called lenticular clouds and they are spectacular. Although I wouldn't want them for a brain since it will make my head foggy.

I don't usually have writer's block when doing blogs, only on my books. Great song.

@josie_ I remember her from growing up as well. I don't just write the Bible Studies. I have other topics as well.

@just4him _Most of your posts are about faith. Maybe that's one reason it's easier to write because of your strong conviction on the topic. I grew up with the music of Joni Mitchell

I agree with you... ideas are like clouds. Sometimes , it is like scattered feathers in the sky. Somewhat difficult to put them together and have one thought. There are times that it is full and fluffy. Where you can talk many things about one thing. Or it could be dark and almost black. Where you cannot figure out what you are going to say.

@magallon _Enjoyed your insight. I particularly like " it is like scattered feathers in the sky. Somewhat difficult to put them together and have one thought." Those cloud feathers probably came from a cloud chicken scratching a parcel of cloud land for some kernels of korn(i) ideas.

@josie_ it happens to me sometimes where I have many ideas, many things to say but I can't put them together to get one very good thought.

I easily forget ideas so I write immediately as they come to my mind otherwise they will vanish in a while like a vapor.

@salonga _That's a good practice. I also keep a lot of story ideas in my computer. I often would look at it and maybe jot a few lines to flesh out the story even if I cannot complete the article. I might come back to it in the future to follow up and complete it or use part of it in another article.

@crazyhorseladycx _Thankful though for his post. I was writing "Ideas are like clouds.." in the comment box then it hit me. You know I have a penchant for writing long comments, so why not instead post my comment as a discussion?

I love watching the clouds especially when I am inside the plane and the clouds are under the plane. I thought my small nieces in Pinas how to play a game with clouds when they felt bored at home. It was fun creating different types of animals from a cloud.

@thelme55 _ It's fun to play with children because they have not yet been expose to the "reality" of the world. We see the world through their eyes and for a brief moment the adult world of cynicism, greed and mistrust disappears.

Some of my posts are mundane. It's when I'm writing fiction that the clouds start growing and exploding.

@BettyB _Fiction allows our imagination free rein to explore and experiment. But the mundane only appears so because we unwittingly allowed others to set it's boundaries.
