I have read some discussions here that use some ‘jejemon’ words. Please pardon me, fellow users, for using the words that you posted here. Ergo, I am making a discussion here with more jejemon words for your delight. “ 8’s a gr8 day 2day, and d sun s shining brytly. Hope u r ol in gud health. I n u, wonderful ppl, make ds syt a gud plce to nteract, bcos we earn frm the active prtcpt8n.” Have you received this type of text message, whether on FB or in mobile phones? It is difficult to decipher these words when you are not used to it, right?

Let me try to decipher it "it's a great day today, and the sun is shining brightly. Hope you are all in good health. I and you, wonderful people, make this site a good place to interact, because we earn from the active participation.

of course you can decipher that, my friend, because that is how some of our fellow countrymen send their text messages to others, right? the 8's is ITS, and when i read the text, i always read that as EIGHTS.

If you see this kind of abbreviation posted in myLot, you should report it because it is specifically against the Guidelines. Actually, if your example were posted as a 'discussion' it would violate the Guidelines on at least two counts, if not three, as far as I can see!

@LadyDuck It's already in English. '8' is pronounced 'eight'/'ate'/&c. so 'gr8' should be read as 'great', '2day' should be read as 'today' and so on. The '8's' at the beginning is stretching it a bit but means 'It's'. Other common abbreviations are 'd' for 'th', 'y' for 'igh' and using one vowel in place of two ('u' for 'oo', 'ou' and also for 'you') and missing out vowels altogether. The full message therefore reads: " It’s a great day today, and the sun is shining brightly. Hope you are all in good health. I and you, wonderful people, make this site a good place to interact, because we earn from the active participation.” The reason for "text speak" is that SMS messages can (or, rather, could) only be 160 characters long, so using such 'shorthand' meant you could send longer messages. Of course, there's no need (or any place) for that sort of abbreviation here!

@owlwings Do you think that adding an English translation would be a better way to avoid to see the discussion deleted? I have no clue what this phrase means.

no, i have not read a discussion with these kinds of abbreviations or distortion of English words, but there are some who inject some words in their discussions. i write my discussion with complete words, i just read some that brought me into writing this post.

It is not difficult for me to read that correctly. However, I do not encourage such writing in sms, whatsap etc. I prefer to write it clearly and I don't mind to spend some time to write in the proper way.

right on that. some people do text those words when the characters allowed for a pero is nearing and they have not yet texted their reason for texting.

@popciclecold hahaha! that is usually the roblem with jejemon words. they are short cuts and when spoken, it is the actual word, like the LYK, or the 8s which is read ITS.

I've heard and read 'jejemon' and honestly, I am annoyed by it. It should be discouraged and altogether not used anymore. It disregard spelling, grammar, and punctuation rules. 'It's a great day and the sun is shining brightly. Hope you are all in good health. I and you, wonderful people, make this site a good place to interact because we earn from the active participation'

I find this type of writing annoying. I have a cousin that would post stuff like this on facebook. I finally just stopped trying to read it altogether.. it seems like this would be easier to type is they just used actual ENGLISH.

I know people using such words in text message. It can really be hard to decipher at times. But it is unacceptable for anyone to write like this on Mylot. I think in this situation we can tell the member to write appropriately or we report the discussion

Why oh why oh why! "It's a great day today, and the sun is shining brightly. Hope you are all in good health. I and you [???], wonderful people, make this site a good place to interact, because we earn from the active participation." There's a part there I can't even figure out for sure. Is it 'I and you'? But that doesn't look like correct grammar. Is it 'you and I' which sounds better? Or is it 'I know you' which doesn't really make sense again. I understand using that way of typing when we are limited to a small number of characters. But this is not a text message, nor Twitter. Whoever wrote that should spell it out. We have space. We must not let ourselves get used to writing that way everywhere or else we might forget how to write correctly.

@ridingbet I was under the impression that you copied that jejemon paragraph from elsewhere here in MyLot - that someone actually posted that as a discussion. But I understand it now as something you wrote yourself specifically for your discussion. In that case, apologies if I was too harsh in pointing out the perceived grammatical error. Believe it or not, I am usually more forgiving (and will probably ignore) other such errors if the rest of the paragraph or post was written in proper English, or at the very least, if I feel that the writer did their best in trying to write properly. However, I was looking at that jejemon paragraph and looked at it as a post in itself (as I said, I thought someone actually wrote that as a discussion and you copied it). Therefore, I nitpicked at it and looked for every little thing that's wrong that I can find about it. Think of it as me trying to build a case against mr. jejemon paragraph, because I really feel strongly against that kind of writing. As I said, it is forgivable in limited text messages, and perhaps twitter. But never, never in a place like MyLot where you can write as long as you would need. Peace!

i am just making a statement of jejemon words here, and i don't consider making correct grammar here. if you find my statement full of errors, then by all means, do the corrections.
