My New Toy

In a couple weeks I see the surgeon about my double knee replacement. I've been trying hard in the last week to get my tablet to work the way I want it to. Unfortunately I bought a tablet that's a piece of - well you know. So this morning I went online looking for something that will allow me to have complete Internet access while I'm in the hospital and recovering in the nursing home. I went first to Dell, but their prices were way over my budget. So, I went looking on the Wal-Mart site. I found a lot of tablets and tablet PC's that looked good. I read reviews, lots of them before I settled on a new tablet PC well within my budget. The one I bought had over a thousand 5 star reviews on it. It was under $50 and will be here on Wednesday. It's one of those that includes the keyboard. The only thing I won't have is a mouse. I refuse to go crazy because I won't have access to a computer. I don't know if I'll be able to work on any manuscript, but I will be able to interact here and hopefully on my game as well. If it has a USB port I'll get a thumb drive so I can work on something. We'll see. I just don't want to be left without anything while I'm recuperating from surgery. Or not have access to my e-mails, which I'll need to keep in touch with my editors. I'll be sending them the manuscript most likely on Monday and get the ball rolling on the final steps to getting it published. So being available is important. Because I don't know what I'll be able to do or not, I don't know if I'll be able to post the Daily Bible Study during that time. But I'm sure I can figure something out there as well. You know what they say, 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' I'm going to do everything I can to make a way so I don't go nuts not being able to interact and work on a computer of some kind. I just hope I can come home in a short time. I'm literally going to be putting my life in someone else's hands. That's what I did this morning. This afternoon I binge watched the last few episodes of a series I've been watching. Now I'm here to interact once again. I hope your day has been a good one. Thanks for reading.

I won't mind if you don't post the Bible studies. I skip over them every day. Evil Biologist that I am.

I know you won't mind, but that also means I won't be doing any study and that's not an option for me.

Not sure why some tablets are not so great, but it seems like something you will really appreciate having during your recovery @just4him

Good luck on your knee surgery. I hope all goes well for you. I know how you feel not having internet access. That would freak me out as well. Don't worry about posting here, take your time and heal so you can come home.

I hope so. I know I can with the tablet I have, but it's difficult to use, but I can't access anything else, and fights me for e-mails.

I hope you have internet access in hospital. Here only private hospitals have that for patients and you have to pay for it.

@just4him that is amazing. Is it private or the public health system? Our public system is free, private you pay, usually with insurance.

@valmnz Public. I'm on government insurance so I won't need to worry about it.

When I was in the hospital a couple years ago they had it and even loaned me a laptop to use. When I went to the nursing home for rehab, I had my son bring me my ultra slow laptop and had to find a way to access it. The nursing home was accommodating. A few comments were that they would need to make changes as their patients needs were also changing with the times. I'll be in a different hospital this time, and more than likely a different nursing home. I'll make certain it has access before I decide which one I want to go to. They do give you a choice, which is nice.

Wow that sounds like you got a good bargain in Walmart and that it will fill your needs while you recuperate. Will you be doing both knees at the same time?

Today has been another one of pain, and wait and see. It is going to be a week of finding out a lot of things and trying to decide what my next steps need to be from here.

Best of luck on your knee surgery. Will you have someone to help you when you get out? I like the Kindle fire, cheap and functional.

When I had my hip replaced I didn't feel like using the computer, I don't even know if it was allowed in the hospital. I was only in for four days though, so it wasn't a problem. I hope your new tablet proves to be satisfactory.

You've been busy. That's a nice deal. I've been thinking of getting a tablet for my new computer, but you're right about writing and not able to print either. My brother mentioned it to me last year I believe. Hope your surgery goes well soon.

Wow, I'm surprised you found a tablet PC at that price. I hope it works well while you're laid up. How long will it be until you're up and about? I hope you have a quick recovery. Have a stack of good books handy just in case.

Thumb drives are so nice. I have one and use it alot. I keep all my manuscripts, documents and pictures on them so my computer isn't full of stuff.

I bought a tablet, but I finally switched back to my small laptop, I still prefer a laptop to a tablet.

You having both knees done at the same time? I wouldn't' think that is something they would do..I wouldn't I know that. I have a 99 dollar tablet I got on QVC and it is a brand I never heard of but I've had no issues with it...it's just hard typing on anything but a real keyboard.

you can also use a UBS hub mouse, that's what I sometimes use with my tablet. It's good to have some things to do, may also wanna download the kindle app, and have some free books placed on there for variety!

You sound so much like me. When we go away I always have to have my tablet with me, just in case. Hahaha. My husband brings his laptop. Last time I even brought a very old computer with me that I hadn't used in years. Hopefully that will work. Good luck with the operation. My girlfriend had both of hers done last year and we stayed at her house with her for a few days.
