I Either Get Sleepy Or Hungry

When I take supplements like Vitamin B-complex or Iron, I take them at night because they make me sleepy. When I take painkillers like paracetamol/acetaminophen or antibiotics, I'm always hungry. That's how my body reacts. How about you?

Only antihistamine medicines (those for the cold and allergies) make me sleepy and the aspirin make me hungry.

The only thing that makes me sleepy is if i drink medicine for a cold. Other than that, I cannot think of any other medicine that makes me sleepy. If you don't mind me asking, what is the vitamin b complex for? Specifically for what reason are you drinking it? Just asking out of curiousity

I am not sure if it has something to do with being a vegetarian. I take them for additional nutritional support seeing I don't eat meat.

I used to take food supplements too, but it's driving me to bed most of the time so, I discontinued taking any food supplements and resorted to healthy habits (food and exercise). Some medicines do have side effects too and that's another reason why I also avoid taking pain killers as much as possible. But of course, there are times that we really need to take medicine/s if needed.

@hereandthere fruits and veggies , and I am done with my 3 months -No rice diet. Exercise is an option and prefer the zumba, just doing it at home before bedtime to relax some muscles (cooking takes a lot of energy and it's draining me all the time)

You know what, I am not sure whether or not the iron supplements make me tired. I was extremely tired most of the time due to anemia, which is why I was taking the iron supplements. Perhaps the supplements did make me more tired, but if they did I most likely just blamed it on the anemia. I generally took them in they late morning, so I did not sleep after taking them ... unless it was a day where I was just so tired I had to take a nap. I have never noticed increased hunger after taking acetaminophen, though. Steroids, on the other hand, make me extremely hungry.

@hereandthere I have been on steroids for pneumonia. I think that they increase your appetite, but also I could have been hungry due to the fact that I was so sick I hadn't eaten in a week or more. When I started to feel better, the hunger kicked in like crazy. The weight gain from steroids also comes from water retention. I gained ten pounds in two days and couldn't wear my rings, but it went away as I got better and completely after I got off the steroids. Fortunately, I do not have to take the iron supplements any more. If I do again, though, then I will try to take them at night and see whether or not it helps me sleep.

maybe if you took the iron at night, it would help you sleep? i feel the hunger more with ibuprofen and antibiotics. i've never been on steroids, but i have heard about the weight gain because of it.

Really? I guess I've always eaten first before taking a vitamin or painkiller . . . so I didn't feel any of that. I will still take a vitamin if I remember to, but no more painkillers of any sort - not even for a headache.

@hereandthere Yep - I pretty much ride the headache through. Rubbing my hands and cupping them over my closed eyes helps to relieve it a little. Some reflexology and acupressure (what little I know about it) seems to help too. In most cases a good sleep takes care of it, but not always.

i always eat before taking any vitamin or medicine. but as i said, medicine for headache, muscle pain, fever and antibiotics tend to make me feel hungry again 2 hours later. meanwhile, vitamins and minerals make me sleepy so i take them at night. how do you cure a headache? just let it resolve by itself?

i noticed it, too, and i'm envious of those who don't take any maintenance medications. that's why when someone wrote about feeling ill when she eats apples, i told her that "an apple a day" does not apply to everyone.

Multivitamins do make me sleepy sometimes. I take one in the morning and every other day only. Antibiotics disturb my digestive system for some reason but apparently that's how it gets rid of bacteria in your body. Get well soonest!

acetaminophen and paracetamol should always be taken in full stomach, like ibuprofen (alaxan, advil). i think the vitamin B complex has that side effect too of making you sleepy, but usually the antihistamines like benadryl and other cough syrups make one drowsy.

B-complex should be taken after the dinner or lunch. Painkillers should never be taken on an empty stomach. They do have some content that causes sleep.I always follow this.

I don't believe in medication much so I don't take them unless I have to (doctor's order)... I saw on tivi how vitamin supplements now made in the form of lollies. I think I like them that way...
