Last weekend, I've mentioned about the talk I've had with my brother on my computer issues. I did mention it to him again. Although getting a Ipad or tablet is out, I won't be going to Apple anytime soon this month. It would have to wait until next month as soon as my brother knows his work schedule. (He didn't have time to check my computer out today.) But getting a Chromebook is still under consideration. I might have Apple to replace my keyboard if nothing else. That would solve almost all of my problems---safe mode, speakers, etc. at the same time. If that's remotely possible, I would go that route insead of replacing my computer. I'm still going to keep looking and shopping around this month for computer replacement options.

@luispas Thanks Luis. First the keyboard, then the speakers, then the battery (sometimes), now the mouse and the shift key. I did talk to him last year and the past two weeks. If I can't fix it and he can't fix it from what I've tried to do, we need to go to Apple for a diagnosis. He would make time, if I need to do errands with him. But not for another two weeks. It can wait until after the 4th of July.

I saw a really inexpensive Acer laptop on sale recently, I am using an Acer right now and I like ti very well. I have a mini iPad and I love it, I use it in bed to watch movies etc. I also have a Kindle Fire but it is much more limited than my iPad.

@KristenH - Ms Kristen - For my next computer (?) I am going to get a refurbished used computer from our local "Goodwill" store. Here we have one that does a good jib on used electronics and sells the stuff at good prices - and with a 30-day replacement guarantee too. Hard to beat. One of my buddies bought a whole system - computer, display, keyboard, mouse, and software including the most recent operating system (with lots of disk and RAM memory) for $134. Check to see if there is something like this near you. -Gus-

@KristenH - Hi Ms Kristen - "Best Buy" is a retail seller of many different kinds of products - mostly new stuff. "Goodwill Industries" is a not-for-profit charity that, in the instance of refurbished computers, trains and supervises workers in the repair and testing of computer equipment which is then offered for sale at great prices to the general public.
There is a huge difference between the two organizations. One is a retailer and the other, a charity.
Have fun today, and let your brother know that his advice is good advice.

I would like to get a tablet that I could play some games on and use when we are on the road. Bringing a laptop along for a ride is a bit cumbersome.
