At some point during the day today I will turn in my resignation from public school teaching. I'll admit I am nervous about how my Principal is going to take the news. or or Wish me luck.

As it turned out, it didn't go. The Principal took off early and won't be back until at least tomorrow.

@AbbyGreenhill I have it on good authority that the students at the school I'm going to are not nearly as dysfunctional as the ones I'm leaving behind.

@DWDavis so you are still a teacher, not much change. 4th grade catholic school we put the nun in the mental institution and a few years later we did it to two more...and you thought catholic school would be easier LOL!

Your boss may not be happy but as long as you give them the required notice, all he can do is wish you luck. I know you're excited about your new teaching position.

I'm giving them two weeks more than the required notice, so that won't be an issue. I am looking forward to my new challenge.

I think she will be disappointed I chose to leave but supportive of my reasons why. Now I have to wait until Monday to find out, though. She left early today.

Resigning always feels like you are "breaking up" and feels so personal. Good luck.

I'm worried she'll take it personally. In some ways, she is part of the problem, but she's not the reason I'm leaving.

@DWDavis what works for me... I always ask them to give me a friends point of view (not as a Boss). We always leave for something better, so kinda puts them in a corner (how could they not support leaving). Gives them a feeling of control, protects reference and enables a calmer notice period.
