I Should Be Okay

Today I called my doctor's office and spoke to his nurse about what happened yesterday (I foolishly squatted down to take a photo and then after the fact thought I probably shouldn't have done that, since I just had hernia repair surgery two weeks ago.) The nurse was sympathetic and said I should be fine, but if the pain persists definitely call back and let them know. That it takes between four to six weeks to fully heal and I'm still fresh from surgery and need to try to take things slow and easy. I'm feeling much better today pain-wise and am relieved to know that I probably didn't do any damage to my surgical site. No more squatting for me from now on! At least not for the next month or so. The idea of going through hernia repair surgery again is not appealing.

I had double hernia surgery about a year ago, and I thought I had re-injured myself about a week after the surgery when I foolishly tried to climb some stairs. My doctor specifically said no stair climbing for several weeks, but unfortunately my home is a 3-story.

My doctor never said no climbing stairs, which would be impossible for me since I live on the second story of my apartment building! I'm going to have to call and ask if I'm supposed to be doing that I guess. Especially since I've carried things upstairs (that weighed less than 15 lbs, but it occurred to me I was just told not to lift anything over 15 lbs, they never said anything about carrying anything, especially upstairs!) I'm sorry you went through this too.

@moffittjc That's interesting. What kind of hernia repair did you have done, if you don't mind me asking? I had a femoral hernia and inguinal hernia right next to each other. The only instructions I was really given was to avoid lifting anything over 15 lbs for 6-8 weeks. And then at my post-op appointment he said no strenuous activity for the next 6 weeks, but he didn't specify what classifies as "strenuous."

@Srbageldog That was really the only condition my doctor gave me when released from the surgery. Avoid stairs if possible. Other than that, he wanted me moving and walking around as much as possible to help with the healing process.

I thought I commented on this already, must have forgotten to hit the respond button. I hope that you are okay and didn't do any damage.

@Srbageldog sometimes we do things without a thought. It just happens and then we kick ourselves for doing it.

It sucks you're in pain, but I'm glad it's getting better. I did a lot of stuff I shouldn't have after I had the boy because I didn't have a choice, and sometimes I forgot until after the fact and I ended up in pain. It happens, hopefully, you've been reminded to watch what you do now. Live and learn I guess.

@Srbageldog I would imagine so. It does suck and yes we have. He even agrees he should have helped more but you can't go back to the past, you can only move forward.

I suppose if I wasn't supposed to do anything they would have instructed me to stay in bed and not move for 6 weeks. XD That sucks you had to do stuff you weren't supposed to after having the boy, your boyfriend should have helped more (but we've already discussed that before.)

I will. Hopefully I won't have to call again. I am going to avoid doing anything foolish like that from now on, at least until I'm healed.

I am relieved to know that there shouldn't be any damage too. Hopefully all this pain subsides soon. It comes and goes. I felt really good earlier and now am having some discomfort again.
