Code Compliance keeps us all in check.

City Code compliance officers do go out and make sure people are in compliance. I know it is hard because sometimes people forget to remove those high weeds in the back alley if they seldom go outside to look at it. The person who parks on an unapproved surface is doing disfavor to his or her property value and when parked on the ground where once there was green grass but now only mud, is a bad thing to look at but moreover, takes the value away from the entire neighborhood. If only people understood the pressures these code enforcement officers have to go through not only from their supervisors but the property owners who often argue and make excuses for not taking care of things in a timely manner. There are some exceptions to every issue of being in compliance or not, as in being elderly, handicapped and low income. These three factors have to be realized by City Council leaders because there do seem to be issues that are beyond the ability of many home owners in retirement and with limited physical ability to take care of some things that healthier and younger people tend to take for granted. One friend of ours is able to just pay a man to take care of the lawn, and the dog and the trees and the roof. But not everyone can do this. Those of average means have to sometimes get out and do some things themselves as they are unable to afford the expense of having a handy man or a landscape man or carpenter do the job. This is an ever constant thing. Old cars in the driveway that are in need of repair that the car owner and home owner has no place else to put it and sometimes gets fined for not removing it or fixing it. These are issues that are a constant and I think to some degree in need of community feedback. Support your city by doing all you can to keep it clean by simply not tossing out bags of trash or beer bottles out the car window as you drive down the lanes and try your best to recycle. These are simple things even a retired older guy can do and feel good about it.

For one year now we have cleaned up our yard. It was a mess when we bought the house. We still have to get rid of all the weeds by the sidewalk in the front.
