All about that perspective

Recently a series of spirited discussions arose from older men with younger women and vice versa.  I want to give a shout out credit to @SonjaRae for starting this discussion and this is one that had me pondering.  I would like to share my own experience and perspective on the matter. As a 37 year old woman, I'm actually at the age where I'm in the mid of it all.  As a librarian, I get hit on quite a bit, both online and offline in real life.  I get hit on by the older 50 something year olds.  Let me tell ya, as flattering as it is, but from my perspective, thats just too close to my dad's age, who is in his early 60s, and his over all health is mediocre, at best.  Let's face it, while the stories are fascinating and we as younger ones can learn a bit, but theres just too big a generation gap to really relate.  That's not even mentioning getting physical, which I won't get into at the moment. Then, I get hit on by some of the younger ones.  Granted, some of those are quite cute, but, I feel like I'm being someone's mommy.  For example, last summer, I had a very short kind of a fling with a guy that was 13 years younger than me.  Nothing major happened, and not much really came of it, but it did provide a reminder, and shed some light on some things.  While there was the fact we were attracted to each other, but there was not much beyond that attraction.  It was mostly just awkward silence.  Plus i really didnt want to make him feel weird and uncomfortable  We are still friends, but we don't see each other much these days. The whole thing took me back to my years when I was just barely 18, back then I hung out with a couple of guys that were my age now. (37)  I now know why those never lasted more than a month. So yeah, this has been kind of a personal topic for me, and at least it has helped inspire some things.  I hope this has fueled at least some thought in a few of you as well.

When I think of this I think about my grandparents. They were 12 years apart. My grandma was 12 years younger than my grandfather. She always wanted to go out, skating or shopping but he always wanted to stay home and relax. Part of it was the age factor-he had his days of going out and was over that aspect of his life. She wasn't over it. It didn't work and they ended in a divorce. The age difference was too much for many reasons.

I know a few cases where an age gap has worked well. A friends older sister started dating her ex teacher when she was 18 and he was 36. They are still together 20 years later!!

@librarygeek1980 Yep everyone reckoned it wouldn't last but they seem to be made for each other!! Can't say I'd fancy being with someone that much older than me!!

Just when I thought we getting along so well you now tell me I am too old for you! I might have one foot in the grave, but you don't know where my hands are. *Strikes Jenny Jones off his 'to do' list.

@librarygeek1980 You don't like your name shortened? There was me thinking I was getting more familiar and you think I am talking about someone else. Must be an age thing,

Ah, welcome back, lol. This topic was simply an observation and a pondering point. And wait a minute, so the famous old talk show host back in the 90s was on the list?!

Me, it would have to be no more than 5 or 6 years in either direction, that way I can relate to them better. That's ok, everyone has thier preferences :)
