Fruit Basket

# 74 Fruits have always been a constant favorite for my family. We always have one, two, or even three different kinds in a fruit basket on our dining table. The Pixabay picture I used as a header looks very similar to what we usually have. Maybe add bananas to the basket as we seem to always have some of them around too. I was just looking around my kitchen and inside the fridge; I realized at that particular time I had more than usual number of fruit varieties available. I counted 10 of them; there were bananas, apples, oranges, mandarins, and lemons in the fruit basket. I also saw grapes, cut up watermelons and cantaloupes in the fridge. Then there were a couple of fresh young coconuts and a box of dates that my husband had just bought sitting on the kitchen counter. And a few days ago, a friend brought some fruits for us too. They were gone now but they would add to the different varieties we already had. He brought some freshly picked guavas from his trees. Also some mangoes and jackfruit he bought from the fresh market. We love fruits! Image credit: Pixabay

I have a fruit basket on my kitchen counter that always is filled with fruits (oranges, apples, bananas, pears). You will probably also find some cut up watermelon in my fridge.

Fruits are loaded with important vitamins and we must have them on a daily basis. My favorite are oranges. I can have them everyday.

Bananas seem to be the one fruit that we always have at home. Followed by apples and grapes. They are easy to eat.

@Nawsheen The price for bananas is pretty stable now, but I remember when they were very high because of some flooding at the area where they grew most. They went up as high as around USD3 a piece.

We love fruits too, we also have several varieties at home. Right now I know that I have plums, peaches, apricots, strawberries, grapes, cherries, a melon and a slice of watermelon. Of course I also have oranges, lemons and limes.

@LadyDuck Ah, and when you mentioned limes, I remember my husband bought some so I looked inside the veggies compartment in the fridge and there they were a couple of them where he put them.

My husband loves fruit a tiny bit more than I do. He bought an antique silver fruit basket, which I keep filled with fruit on a kitchen counter. I keep my apples in the refrigerator.

I have one son who likes his apples refrigerated. So he'd put one in if he wants to eat later. The rest of the family do not mind them in the fruit basket.

Sometimes when they don't get eaten fast enough, I use bananas to make banana bread, or apples to make apple strudel, or blend the oranges to make fresh orange juice.

Having more fruits are healthy. I like fruits, too. But usually I just buy one or two kinds of fruits and then I will buy new fruits after finishing them.

bananas are constant here. then a seller drops by every day offering pineapple and papaya. one fruit i really liked was dark cherries. i've only ever known maraschino cherries on cakes and desserts. it's interesting that people are able to grow guava and jackfruit trees there. why did you buy fresh young coconuts?

I've seen my friend's guava trees down here... They are not big trees but bear lots of guavas. I'm not sure if jackfruit trees grow here - my friend bought the jackfruit from the fresh market but they had actually been frozen. My husband and my middle kids love young coconut water. He'll buy them once in a while when he sees them in the store.

@hereandthere Are the trees big? The ones my friend has are small - we don't have to climb it to get to the guavas...

@sishy7 i remember climbing a relative's guava trees when we were young also here in our neighborhood. i almost slipped. here jackfruit can be cooked in coconut milk when not ripe, and eaten when ripe and added to desserts. there is a fresh coconut stall here in my neighborhood, but i've never really liked coconut water (buko juice). i prefer buko pie and buko ice drop with mongo (red beans) and buko ice candy. hehe.

Usually go with bananas and apples. I like to cut the banana to put on top of my cereal. Enjoy apple wedge slices with cheese. Also, I'll put the wedges into my salad. Big fan of cranraisins which I put in both. With summer here, I'm growing tomatoes which I enjoy on sandwiches and in my salad. Fruit is not my #1 go to but I try.
