So I read today that Marian Hossa is out for the 17-18 season due to some illness and I am sad because I have a felling he wont ever return to the ice. For those that don't know him, he is a hockey player for the Chicago Blackhawks. He was drafted in 1997 and has played for a few different teams, he was only the 44th player in league history to reach 500 goals. He was a 5 time All-Star and a 3 time Stanley Cup winner. He is arguably one of the best two way players in the history of the NHL. Besides all that he accomplished, the awards and records, what always impressed me over the years is that he is a gentleman on and off the ice. I will miss seeing him play this year and can only hope that he can get better and return in the 18-19 season. Even though 38 years of age is not old in life, it is quite old when it comes to hockey so I'm not sure he will return to play or just retire from the game. Mr. Hossa, thank you for entertaining us all these years, thank you for your dedication to the game you love and thank you for showing us that in a game some call brutal, there are men that can play a gentleman's game and succeed. I thank you for the one time I had a chance encounter with you and you took a few minutes to say hello and give me and my son your autograph. You made our day and gave us a memory for life, we often talk about it. I wish you all the best and hope for a speedy recovery.

It's always sad to see the good ones leave the game, and especially when they don't get to leave on their own terms but are forced out by an injury or illness.

Agree, I guess I knew it was coming sooner or later but this was a surprise. I thought he would be celebrated one more time on the ice at the end of a season.
