My song association for today is an amusing but also kind of scary song from the 1960s. The song was recorded by the Rolling Stones. The words of the song deal with the time that prescribed calming drugs such as Valium were popular among housewives. When they got into a frenzy they popped pills and could just as well overdose. Well I don’t take drugs of any kind. In fact I don’t even remember when I last took an aspirin so I always count my blessings. However the reason this song came to mind was that it was such a frantic day. I was hoping to find a quiet morning working on my PC but Sid chose this time to come in and out. The reason was that even though it was a bright, sunny day the wind blew in gusts. He hates the wind blowing at him. So he was trying to avoid the wind at all costs. Then my hubby decided it was a good idea to take care of all of the garbage accumulated during our celebrations. We can burn our burnable trash in a spot out back in the garden. Well his leg, just like my knee, on occasion starts to really hurt. Last night it began and was slowly subsiding today but he couldn’t deal with all the trash by himself. So I went to help. Then the tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse needed watering and it was just one thing after another. So this song came to mind because if there was any day I needed a tranquilizer it was today even though I wouldn’t consider taking one. Just love the way the song ends – “and if you take more of those, you’ll be on your way to your busy dying day”. Oh, yes, sad but true so it is better not to take any drugs at all unless you have to for specific reasons. Photo of Sid upon the fence. Did anyone else have a crazy day? Do you sometimes feel like you could really use a tranquilizer?
Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Mother's Little Helper" was recorded in Los Angeles from 3 to 8 December 1965. It was released in the album "Afte...

I remember the song very well. We have a terrible weather, thunderstorms and hailstorms from three days and it's even a bit cold right now.

What a drag it is getting old (but it beats the alternative....the song doesn't say that! ) I'm with you, I don't like "heavy medications." They gave me barbiturates for a freaking headache at the doctor last week. What's up with that???? What's wrong with a simple Tylenol if the headache isn't caused by some other issue? And they wonder why there were over 300 overdose deaths in this city last year.....
