If You Won, Would You Tell?

If you won the lottery, would you tell family and friends? A friend and I talked about this the other day and she said she would tell. She would be so excited she would just blab it out.
I on the other hand said that I would rather keep the news to myself. Not because I would want to keep all the money to myself, but because it can cause a lot of dissent amongst family and friends.
I know who I would quietly help out with some money, I know what I would buy for those who need certain things and I know which charities I would give to, I would just want to remain anonymous is all.
How about you? Would you want every one to know or would you want to quietly help out where you could? And wouldn't it be amazing if we each got to win the lottery once in our lifetime? A girl can dream.

I have won a few times in the past. Sometimes I tell people, sometimes not. The amounts have only been small and so far no one's begged off me.
I don't gamble much these day's, only when I feel lucky, which is usually just twice a year. I never am lucky, so I don't know why I bother.

@bluesa The tickets weren't to go and see Johnny Clegg were they?
Have you played poker? I'll take your hugs (gladly) and raise you with a ...........ooh, I nearly went too high there
.......a kiss on the cheek.

nope they were not. Ooh, you know, I don't have a clue how to play poker now that you mention it. So you could have raised dough for all I know
I'll take a kiss on the cheek, ta!

@Orson_Kart , the only things I have ever won was a bottle of champagne and some VIP tickets. I have never even won small amounts. So, you beat me. I send you hugs for better luck

if i win the lottery, i will keep it to myself and my family. there are many people who want to have easy money, even to the point of committing crimes.

@ridingbet that is so strange. They decided to live it up and never mind the future. It boggles my mind.

@bluesa there were a couple of lottery winners here in my country who were '1-day millionaires' because after 1 day, all their winnings were gone. they said they just wanted to have the taste of having millions of money. they were back in their 'poor' ways after a day

Big wins here are usually announced so it wouldn't matter. If it wasn't for that I would probably keep quiet. I would share it but I would rather choose who to share it with. I know the money would cause some problems. People tend to resent the winners even when they're generous with it.

I will not tell when I won the lottery because it is more dangerous. Besides, having a lot of money suddenly may not be a good thing. We still need to work hard and not just depend on the lottery. Or we shall take good advantage of the money rather than being a lazybone to spend it.

We don't have a choice in our state, the winner is publically announced as soon as they turn in their ticket.

Oh no @BelleStarr , that is awful. I think a person should have a right to keep it quiet if they so choose.

I wouldn't say a word, because all the creeps would come out of the woodwork. Years ago my grandmother inherited quite a bit of money from her sister's son. He was quite famous and it was reported in the newspapers. My father was mentioned in the paper as the first cousin. My mother said that photographers took photos of our house, tried to interview them, and people kept calling. They were such a nuisance!

I would tell my immediate family like my parents, siblings, grandma, my boyfriend, and my best friend, Morgan. Those are the people that I wouldn't mind knowing and wouldn't mind helping out if they needed it because I know they would help me if they had won. I don't really talk to anyone else on either side of my family so it isn't any of their business and I have no problem telling them no if they found out and wanted to ask for money or were trying to use me for it. I have no problem calling people out for wanting to be users or fake because someone got some money.

@CaseyRoss9966 , it is good you would be able to take on any one who would try to take advantage. And you have good people in your life.

@CaseyRoss9966 , I don't blame you for not having sympathy for them then. If they could not be in your life before a win, they certainly would not need to be in your life after a win.

@bluesa None of them has ever really been in my life other than that handful of people. I couldn't even get my family to come to my birthday parties when growing up and I have never had many friends. So I don't have any sympathy for them and don't care if they need things or not.

My parents and sister would be told too @snowy22315 , but then yes, the rest I would help anonymously.

I would be cautious with who I told. I would help out so many MyLot friends that need it, most definitely. The only thing I would do for my own family would be buying a house so we would never be homeless again in our lifetime and I would buy a vehicle that would last a very long time.
Other than that, I would be helping others that need it.

@LovingMyBabies , yes, I would anonymously help many that I know need help. I can understand you would do those two things for your family if you could, and I hope that somehow you will be able to eventually buy a house and a reliable vehicle.

I am with you there. I would keep it quiet. Like you, I have heard that when someone comes into a windfall like that - it causes a lot of strife. I would pay up my debts, buy a home, help certain of friends and family. Quietly help some of them, such as anonymously send $ to them - and invest the rest.
