Total World Food Consumption. REALLY?

Have you ever wondered how much food the world’s population consumes every day? A Greek newspaper, a few years ago, reported some amazing statistics about the daily amount eaten. That amount has increased with the population, of course. On a worldwide basis, it reported that two billion eggs are produced and eaten every day. 1.6 million tons of corn and 727,000 tons of potatoes. Rice is a basic staple for millions of people, with 1.5 million tons produced and eaten every day. Over 365,000 tons are consumed by the Chinese. Also, 7,000 tons of brewed tea leaves fill about three billion cups every day. With the privileged of the world enjoying 2.7 tons of caviar. The average adult in the Western world consumes about 4000 calories per day, although 2500 calories are recommended. And in Africa, the average calories consumed is about 1800. That’s a lot of food, but the Earth was created to produce food in abundance. There would be no starving persons in the world, if the food were distributed in a more balanced way. The fault lies with the governments of the world. While there are many persons who are obese, there are even more that are starving to death. SAD but true. While the obese are dying of heart disease and diabetes, the starving simply don’t have enough to eat, and they die of hunger. A recent news report showed that several countries in Africa are experiencing FAMINE in its worst degree right now. What can be done? What will be done?

I hope something will be done. When food is send to Africa the government steals it.

Yes, the governments are to blame for people starving. There is plenty of food in this world, but the distribution of it is unbalanced and unfair. A new Kroger store opened near where I live and it is HUGE. There is every type of food that a person could want or imagine. The shelves are full. Compare that with what is available to all those starving children in Africa and it is heartbreaking to even think about it. Compare the amount of food that is WASTED on Cruise ships. There is so much food and those who sit down to eat on cruise ships waste most of what is available. At night, this food is dumped in the ocean. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all these cruise ships would deliver the food to the countries that are experiencing FAMINE. I have been on several cruises and the amount of food is ridiculous.
