Yes, you read the title right. I am sewing a washing machine cover right now by recycling old worn out shorts of mine. I know that purchasing a washing machine cover is cheap, roughly $10 for a 8kg topload machine. I can find that at a thrift store. However, I prefer to recycle old items into good use instead of wasting money. I had to use 5~6 old shorts to sew the cover. It will be a rainbow colored washing machine cover. I hope the washing machine doesn't mind my frugality. Do you recycle old clothes? Picture taken and belonged to peachpurple

If I have a lot of ample time, I can do recycle used clothes. I can make a doormat.

a doormat is easy, just gather all the left over fabrics and sew them to patch them up.

@hereandthere you can use sewing by hand or sewing machine. However, I doubt my sewing could sew a doormat, the needle breaks easily.

It's a good idea. When we have the option why not use it, I make door mats with old sarees , when I get time.

good idea. Aren't sarees very expensive? The cloths made from nylon?

I think it's a great idea! i'd rather not spend the $10 and it's a better use of old clothing than just filling up closet space... not to mention you'll have unique design for a washing machine cover...

That's very creative and pretty, but why do you cover your washer?

The washer is located in the wet kitchen, where I cook daily. So, the washer becomes oily and sticky. If I cover it , I could reduce the sticky and oil on the outer surface. Where do you put your washer?

@peachpurple That makes sense. My washer and dryer are in a utility room off from the kitchen.

This is great !! What you can make from your own hands can never be compared to store bought, for you give a lot of time and effort to it, it is special. I always want to recycle my old clothes, but i really don't have that talent.

Actually, you have to have a talent or skill. I don't use a sewing machine. All I did is stitch by hand. You can watch the video of recycling old clothes into good use.
