Riddle Me This

I've never been really good at math problems. Or riddles. Or anything brainy, really. Thankfully, the kids take after their nerdy dad and his gargantuan cranium. And beard. Well, okay...they don't have his massive beard yet. But I'm sure it'll help boost their IQ when, one day in the future, they grow one. Though the girls might not appreciate it as much... I digress. In fact, my whole post so far is a digression. Back to the point at hand. Or rather, to the point at hand (since I haven't gone there yet): math. Okay, it's not really math, per se. It's more along the lines of a riddle or a code or a motto. Uh, scratch that last one... I, personally, couldn't figure it out. Hubby had to reveal the mystery after I spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to crack the code. Or pattern. Or whatever math-y people call it. So my question is: when you look at the above picture, can you figure out the problem as fast as a pre-schooler, a programmer, or someone with a higher education? Or are you like me and have no clue? In honor of our 7th child's birth, the 7th person to give the correct answer will receive a cake!

I'm poor at math but I can count circles. 0000=4, 2581=2 there are 2 circles in the figure "8"

You got it. Boy, I feel like a dunce! My brain just doesn't wrap around these things very well. I truly am glad the kids inherited their dad's brains instead of mine!! Oh, and I figured we could all share the cake...

@Genipher _Hanging around with kids (my grandchildren) and you start thinking like one. Not sure if that's good.

@josie_ Well, I once read that we should be like little children so I'm guessing thinking like one is a good thing.

It's more of a 'shape' riddle than a math problem...

@Genipher yeah, it is... just thought maybe the word 'shape' would give some kind of a clue...

Thanks! The first two nights were rough. I was starting to think she'd only ever want to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. But now we've settled down into a routine and I can actually sleep!

As I helped my husband in computer programming, it did not take too long to solve. The number on the right correspond to the number of circles that each number contains. So the 2581 = 2.
