Change of plans

We went to the next town over, an hour and a half before the fireworks were to begin. It was packed at the park. It was hard to find parking, but no wonder, there was a small carnival there as well. The fireworks at Peabody are supposed to be the largest display in Kansas. The town really shows its patriotic spirit. We drove around quite a while. We got to thinking that we did not really want to park and find a place and wait for the hour long show, so we left. We drove in another direction and went to the lake. When it became dark lots of individuals were shooting their fireworks around the lake. Bob and I sat, with open windows and watched the display. We could hear the birds, and the frogs, and the water gently lapping on shore. We saw boats chugging along with lights on as well. Being in nature is very soothing. We were glad we went. I am more of a nature girl than a party girl. That is for sure. I am still sharing old pictures of fireworks.

I am not a fan of crowds and I can live without fireworks but neighbors here at our lake insist on shooting them off for an hour every day during July 4th weekend.

If it is only an hour you are lucky. They are usually still going strong at eleven at night around here.

I always prefer to go away, usually up north, to watch fireworks at a city on the water. The reflections off of the water make it worth a little get away, and there is usually a nice breeze off of the bay.

Even in very warm weather, water off a lake feels wonderful. I agree about the reflections.

Crowds I don't like. Fireworks I do. We had 30 minutes of straight beauties at the beach. Luckily, we parked in our son's driveway and walked down the block with our beach chairs and our friends.

That sounds very nice. I do crowds better if I arrive first, and settle in. This was a new venue and it felt too crowded. Nice to have a family owned parking spot.

It was very nice. I think we needed the plain and simple getaway for the hour or two. No fighting traffic to get back on the road home.
