I thought about what @patzanthony asked in her post and realized that most of the places my parents and grandparents knew as their homes no longer exist. But if I could I'd try to find the spot where my parents played as children. So much has changed since the early 1920s.
Would you visit the neighborhoods your parents grew up in? Do those areas still exist as they were when your parents were young?

That's Ally in the photo, it was hot and I was spraying her.
If you had the chance to visit the neighborhood where your parents or grandparents once lived-would you knock on a strangers door and ask to visit the house you...

The house of my grandmother, where my mother was born 96 years ago, is still up and still owned by my Mom family. Most of the neighbors are children or nephew of those who lived there in the past. Also the apartment where my father was born is still there.

My father's parents house was demolished long ago, but I'm not sure about my other grandparents. I remember it as being a tiny cottage in the country with a huge garden, and we had many happy times there. I'd like to keep it that way in my memory, so I don't think I would like to go back, just in case it's not there.
Lovely photo of Ally.

I can understand your sentiment. I never got to actually see the original homes of either of my parents or grandparents so I have nothing to which to compare what might be there now.
Thank you, I took it a few years ago on a very hot day.

@rebelann Yes, I am lucky that I don't live too far from where they grew up. Just over the county line from each other.

I was between ages 6 to 9 @TiarasOceanView what I remember was having a blast riding on the train, I got to see a lot of livestock as the train drove by and I got into trouble because I didn't obey the rules.
I'd love to go back to see it from an adult point of view.

My father grew up in Bessarabia which is near Russia so cannot visit where he grew up and my grandparents grew up in the Ukraine so cannot visit where they grew up. When I was still in the States or visiting I did visit my grandfather's house he lived in by the school I went to. I met some of his neighbors and they all had such nice things to say about him.

I haven't met anyone who knew my parents as children other than aunts or uncles or grandparents but I was so young when I met them that I didn't know to ask anything about them. All connections with cousins have been lost so I don't even have those kinds of ties.

Oh yes, I know how that feels @Hannihar I've tried to find cousins I know I have but nothing I did helped, either they are not online or else records were not properly kept, I know that as far as my great grand parents are concerned all that information was lost when the County Court house in that region burned down in 1925.

rebelann, very frustrating isn't it. I remember how excited I was when I first moved here. I went back to bring things here and asked a cousin if we had relatives here and we happened to have. I contacted them but could not speak to them at the time in Hebrew and now can do not know what happened to them. So, it is just my cat and myself. I guess records can be gone when there is a fire. That is a shame. Have you tried the geneogology sites. I can't remember because I do not use them anymore. I only went into the Jewish ones. I may have some family from Russia that may be in the country for all I know and will never find them and I do not speak Russian. My parents spoke Yiddish which is what the Jews spoke in Europe and also there are Jews that speak it here. My grandfather or father never spoke Russian.
