Day 304 Proverbs 28:24 Proverbs 28:24 Whoso robs his father or his mother, and says, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. Consider all the ways a person can rob another. Not just by the obvious method of stealing what doesn’t belong to them so the police need to be called, the theft reported and restitution made when the object is returned. Unkept promises is robbing a person of valuable time. Unkept promises is perhaps my number one problem with people, and the reason I don’t trust anyone. You rob a person of trust, faith, and reliability, when you don’t keep promises. I know I am not perfect, and failed in this area too. Solomon told the people that when a person robbed their parents – were untrustworthy in their actions and could not be relied on in any given situation, they were companions of the destroyer, or Satan. Nobody wants to have Satan as their companion. People want others to trust them, see them as reliable, someone they can count on in a pinch. Yet, how many times do you wait for someone to show up, who doesn’t do so? Soon that person has a reputation for being late or not showing up at all, and the burden of the task is put on one person and the job takes longer to complete. Robbing mother or father is also cursing them, showing them disrespect, dishonor. That too brings shame to the person who is disrespectful of their parents. Yet, how much disrespect is displayed today by our youth and they think nothing of it, and the parents have become complacent to the point nothing affects them anymore. Jesus had something to say about a child who curses father and mother in such a way. Matthew 15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death. 5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou might be profited by me; 6 And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. It is time we stopped robbing people. It is time we gave people the respect they deserve, and keep our promises. It’s time to change our reputation. Father, Thank you for your faithfulness in every area of my life. Help me to be faithful in what I say and do. Help me become more reliable and not rob anyone of valuable time and trust, giving respect to everyone I interact with daily. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
