Hoax response gets a strange backlash

If you're on Facebook, you've no doubt heard about the Jayden Smith hoax. Don't accept a friend request from him, your computer will be hacked, your money will all go to Nigeria, your nose will fall off, etc. Please send this message to all 3 billion people on Facebook in the next 10 seconds or we are all doomed. Or words to that effect.
We all have our own way of handling getting requests like this. I've seen people post on their timelines not to forward it, people get pissy with people about it, etc. I prefer to handle it by sending the person a private message letting them know it's a hoax. It's polite, it's private and they can then choose to handle it however they choose.
I've gotten four the last two days, and I've handled all of them the same. The first three said "thank you" or "thumbs up" or "oh, I didn't know". The fourth person got pissy with me. Here is what she said:
"Hoax or no I felt guided to send it read what I wrote about it on my timeline. Always be careful who u friend on FB and if this bothers you feel free to unfriend me"
So I replied that it didn't bother me at all. I was just letting her know. So she got pissier with me:
"The proper thing to do is say thank you for the heads up...apparently u did not read my post about why I sent it...u know Dawn hacking is a problem here on FB...again Hoax or No I felt guided to help"
So I said I was sorry but I hadn't seen what she posted on her timeline about why she sent it, and then I went over there to see what it was. I didn't see anything, and assumed she had deleted the post.
Well no. She had deleted ME...
Good riddance to pissy people, I guess. To each their own. I should have thanked her for forwarding a known hoax to me rather than telling her it was a hoax.
How do you handle chains and hoaxes that get forwarded? Or stupid people for that matter?

This isn't a real friend request. It's a hoax about one.

You should have told her that your warning of it being a hoax was actually a hoax sent by someone pretending to be you and then got pissy with her for falling for an obvious hoax. Twice.
And if that didn't confuse her then I've lost my touch!!!

I fear for the amount of people who take hoaxes for real. I remember my dad's wife reading something off of Facebook, and it didn't sound right to me. Later, I looked it up, and on my first search Snopes.com had an article debunking the story. I would want to know. I personally didn't tell my dad's wife it was a hoax, but I told my dad. I don't know if he said anything, probably not. But I didn't want him to believe the story.

It took me a while to understand such things. My mail is full of such forwards. Some of my friends believe in sending them. I hardly open many of those. As to handling hoaxes forward, I ask myLotters or others who I believe know more than me. :) I qualify as stupid...am wondering how you are going to treat me Dawny..evil grin.

I tend to ignore them all. It is a waste of time and energy. I wonder if your connection is one that keeps sending me crap in private messenger, but got mad and chewed me out over a meme that to me was stating the truth in an ironic way.

She's not a MyLot friend. She's a political acquaintance.

I'm not on Facebook so it ain't a problem. If it did happen to me, I'll do what you did which is to sent a private mail to the person who sent it and inform him/her that it is a hoax.
I delete stupid people from my life.

I used to send them until I got tired of it and found out it was a hoax or scam or whatever. I just ignore it now. Thanks for sharing your interesting story.

I usually just ignore them because the people that send to me send them ALL THE TIME. Depending on who it is, I will say something but there's a few on my FB that I know it is hard to explain things to, so I don't even bother.

I handle it like this , I message then ask them not to send me stuff like this, no chain letter, to send to 50 people to chance my luck etc. if i receive them again i delete them.. I have asked someone several times and each day continued to receive more and more messages.... I won't send any of these to other people ever...

@dawnald the only reason i don't ignore is because I end up with more, the ones with the glitter and move.
