When the grass gets dry

part of my back yard.

I think I will wait to finish mowing my back yard until the grass gets dry. I mowed the front this morning. I mowed the side and a part of the back yesterday. I use a mulching mower and the long wet grass clogs it up and causes it to quit running. You can see the difference in the place I mowed yesterday and what is left. I tried one pass along there today and the mower clogged up. You can see my clothesline here in front. I have sheets I need to go hang. I always have something to get done. I hope you are keeping busy as well.

Yes when you mow it shrivels up Heather I know with the heat. Always something to do.. It is not a flat surface either..bet you have some bumpy rides. Not busy here but stressed to the max.

Oshy, I am so sorry about the stress you are under. I am guessing it is government and paperwork. I should have been clear, it is the dew on the grass that I need to get dry so it does not clog up the underside of the mower. Some parts of this yard have not been mowed all summer, or maybe since we moved here. We do not collect the grass but as you say, let it shrivel on the ground. I think it makes it come back greener and thicker.

The bits of grass we have is really dry also but not yet enough to be able to mow it as its grown in patches so I flatten it down with a lot of walking on it. Take care and enjoy yourself.

Oh we have lots of grass and weeds and other greenery. The dew on it makes it hard to mow in the early morning. I will wait on this part until tonight, I think.

@GardenGerty I have just been trampling all the longish bits again. I am fed up of having to control a wild garden but its all I can do.

Our grass just got a soaking last night and this morning... I suspect that our grass will be in need of cutting in a few days. At the moment, I am strongly considering planting clover... it's certainly prettier than grass (and weeds) anyway and doesn't grow as fast!

I have a lot of clover in the front. Some kinds are taller than others but it is pretty and the bees love it.

My husband is a fanatic about mowing - he cringes every time he hears the neighbor mowing wet grass.

It is a toss up here: grass wet with dew or temps high enough to melt the mower.

It takes twice as long when I have to restart. I did go out around two to mow a dry patch. It is too hot to do that in the picture just yet.

I surely do. Luckily this is in back and no one can see it. The front is presentable.

Well, yesterday I pretty much did not do much of anything, but today was a different story. Went a caught a Bus for the first time in a long time and rode one of my friends who is a Bus driver who I had not seen in quite a while, and we caught up some again. Then came home and did some painting, and now taking time to post here for a bit.

It sounds like a good day. I will visit with an old friend tomorrow. I did not mow today, Wednesday, at all. My fibro has been giving me some trouble, and I slept most of today. When I did try to do stuff, I managed to fall. The painting would be relaxing.

I would break out if I mowed any grass. My allergies are so bad. When my dad mowed his lawn he'd come inside with red eyes, and his skin would be puffy. His neighbor started his mowing his lawn for him, but my dad's wife actually LIKES mowing the lawn. You've done a great job with this.

I learned my lesson a long time ago about trying to cut the grass too early during the day and got the mower blocked. Now I wait that the whole thing is dry.

There are hills and crannies that take forever to dry. I got the front yard because it did get dry and will do the back this evening after supper.

As the old saying goes...a womans work is never done. Trying to mow wet grass can be twice as hard as dry grass.

Yep. It gets so wet and the grass here in Dallas never seems to dry out. I have a heck of a time keeping the mower from clogging up and conking out.

I love having a large property, but the mowing gets overwhelming under those circumstances. I still have a bit to do in my yard, but it will wait until the grass is dry.

@GardenGerty My main problem with grass are the weeds that tend to gather at the bottom of the fences and gates not to mention all along the base perimeter of the house foundation and steps. It can be a real job to keep maintained.

Good idea to wait. I hope it doesn't rain too much so it dries and you can finish mowing. We've had a lot of rain here.

@GardenGerty I wish we weren't due any rain. It's raining right now. Just checked, I think it stopped for the moment.

Mine was so deep I had to raise the mower up using my arms and go over it twice. I am not mowing to day, I am saying to hell with it, cut a path to the car and the dogs area and let it be. I need to clean the inside of the house and I cannot do both, there is only one me.

It's frustrating waiting until the grass is dry. The sun is high by then and the temp is climbing. Take frequent breaks!

Enduring the heat of the sun when outside, tryingvto assist patient while on duty. After work, I'm doing my best to start a garden using dessert sand and pulverized eggshell. I have a 2 centimeter sprout.
