Day 312 Proverbs 29:11 Proverbs 29:11 A fool utters all his mind: but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards. 12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked. Words can build you up, words can tear you down. Those are just a few of the words in a song by Hawk Nelson called Words. To hear the whole song, click on the link below or paste it into the address bar. Everyone knows someone who fits in either of those categories. You know who to go to if you want encouragement and you know who to stay away from because they rain discouraging words all over your life. Solomon knew them as well. He called the one a fool because he spoke everything in his mind without any thought to whom it might hurt. He called the other one wise because they waited until all the evidence was presented before they spoke their mind. He even noted how rulers of the nations around them listened to lies and found even their servants were wicked. David said: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you. Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (KJV) As Christians, you are to discern the words you hear, whether they are good or bad, whether they will lift you up or tear you down. No one wants their spirit broken down by painful words that bring heartache and discouragement. Today, let your words be full of life giving encouragement, building everyone up you see. I guarantee it will put a smile on your face because you helped someone and did not discourage them. Let your words be life. Let’s pray: Father, fill my mouth with life-giving words today that encourage and build up instead of tearing down and bringing discouragement. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. The older I've gotten, the more I consider how my words will affect others before I utter them. At this point, I prefer pursuing questions more than pretending to have answers. Our mutual research on Christ's "forsaken" quotation, while on the cross, is actually an example of that. I had never realized he was quoting the Old Testament. Learning should never stop.

Yes we do. It doesn't do anything good to a person if you're constantly tearing them down.

We should encourage, never discourage and speak the truth when possible in the nicest way we can.
