I had just visit an ex-schoolmate today at her house. She has 2 sons, age 5 and 3 years old. Her 3 years old son is slow at talking but he is an obedient boy, trying to play with his older brother.
However his 5 years old brother dislike him to the core. He kept pushing his little brother away, PURPOSELY that the boy fell to the tiles floor several times, bump his small forehead or backhead, causing bruises and blue blacks. Of course , the little kid cried and my friend cuddled him, lightly smacked her older son's hand. That's it. Not much scolding or stern talking.
I was just wondering, do siblings fight a lot when the age gap gets closer?
Do you?
My brother and I age gap are 2 years apart but we don't push each other or fight that often. Instead, we helped each other to escape from my mom's caning !

No it's lot like that , if age gap is less, I don't think they will fight. It depends upon the children s behavior and how parents should also tell the older ones to not to fight with younger ones

My brother next to me is just 3 years older and i remember that we do fight when we were young. But it all stop when we got older of course. It was all kiddie fights. My father does not allow fights in his house or between family members. It just doesn't exist now that we're all grown ups.

Not all the time. My brother is 11 days short of a year younger than me. We always got along as kids. But as we reached the teen years things got rocky. And now we're good most days but have our moments.
But my mom made sure I was involved with feedings, changes and naps of my baby brother. So I wouldnt be jealous or anything.

My sister and I are 2 years apart and when we were kids, oh Beloved Lord, we fought like two little devils. I really don't know how we survived this holocaust at home! Now we are friends and we laugh so much about when we were young, and we laugh as there will be no tomorrow. Our lungs hurt so much laughing!
But, deep inside of me, I would love to have had a caring sister and also a caring mother at that time. I am the eldest and my mother always gave my sister all the attention and I was like being put apart from everything. Maybe this is why my sister was so cunning at that time. She knew my mother would do everything for her and whenever she screamed "MOOOOOOOOM, look what he is doing", and I was doing nothing, my Mom came in anger to beat me, and I could see my sister face in joy! That was the sad part, but I forgave her, it is ok now.

Not all children are alike. But maybe your friend should check what is bothering her son. Maybe he is jealous of his brother.
