A loud round of applause---

my colleagues and I

---was what the nursing students of all levels did when I was the first clinical instructorr reintroduced to them. Actually, I was not listening that time because I was whispering to my colleague, Ms. AGPR about her mobile phone’s settings that it should not show the messages, but instead should be read as “new messages”. Only when my colleague to my left touched my arm and said, “Ma’am, stand up and go in front to be recognized” did I know that we, part-time instructors are already reintroduced to the students. I was called first, so I stood up and went in front, and there was a loud round of applause. Our new clinical coordinator further said that “I am the mother of all students; that when you hear the name of Ma’am Ingrid, you should all tremble in fear; and do not intimidate her because she can be your worst nightmare”. But Sir FD said all he stated was a joke. The students laughed but continued clapping. It is nice that our actions as clinical instructors are appreciated by the students. I hope our students will be more serious with their studies and not take their course lightheartedly. Have you been appreciated by others too?

an act of appreciation may be concealed, but it can be expressed with a sincere smile and a nod.

That is really great to know. I hope you had some proud moments among students and colleagues. I too get my appreciations for my honorary works. But I take it as my responsibility of serving some one.

isn't it nice that our hard work is appreciated? it is also reflected with the written evaluation that we will read and sign when we go back to school.

On many occasions yes, for helping someone out. But I don't let that make be feel superior. But i thank them for appreciating me. That's basic human nature and we should do these (helping and thanking) whether we're appreciated for these or not.

of course, being appreciated should not go in to our heads and feel we are better than the rest. that is already pride, which is one of the 7 deadly sins. it is also an instinct to help, but being appreciated, humility should also be present.
