Day 318
Proverbs 29:21
Proverbs 29:21 He that delicately brings up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
The Foster Care system is full of children looking for a permanent home. Children bounce from one home to another looking for a good fit. Stories abound about good and bad foster homes, and children without good homes, end up in the prison system. However, the ones who end up in good homes, with foster parents who care about the children awarded them, become valued members of the family, and are considered their own children.
In Solomon’s time, people had servants. When a master treated his servant well that servant became unruly believing he had the same rights and privileges of the children of the household.
As Christians, you are servants of Jesus Christ. However, he stopped calling you a servant. You are considered his child, and joint heir with Jesus Christ before the Father because you accepted the finished work of the cross, with all the rights and privileges of a son and heir.
Galatians 4:1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Many Christians don’t know how to be more than a servant, seeing God as a harsh task master, and not the loving Father who sent his Son, Jesus, to be their Savior and Lord. When you fully embrace God as your Father, you will start to enjoy the rights and privileges of sonship as an heir of God with Jesus, his Son.
Let’s pray: Father, help me see you as my loving Father, and no longer a servant without rights and privileges accorded me when I accepted Jesus, your Son, as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
