The duck is alright

Seeing as I was thinking about my 2012 trip to Las Vegas - I recalled this funny story. I went with a big group of friends. One of my friends can be a little hyper and excitable, but don't worry - I love her anyway. I, on the other hand - can be a little withdrawn and reclusive so- it's an opposites thing. I know I mentioned that seeing the fountain at the Bellagio in Las Vegas was one of my favorite aspects of the trip. It's a huge fountain system in a lake-like pond. The entire thing is set to lights and music as well. My group of friends chose a nice spot to watch from, while my excitable friend stood next to me. Before the fountain show started - she rapid fire - ran these statements by me: There's a duck in the pond! We need to find someone who works here to stop the fountains until the duck can get out! Won't the duck get hurt? The duck should move! This is animal abuse! I replied. I'm sure the duck will be alright. The duck lives here - and knows by now about the fountains, and it will move if it wants to. But she continued. What if it's a new duck? what if it doesn't know about the fountains? What if it gets hurt? Who should I tell? Where can I find someone who works at the Bellagio / with the fountains? Is there someone running the fountains? So to that I simply replied : The duck is alright. And my friend calmed down. And the fountain show started. Music, lights and animated fountain, it was really quite splendid. The duck, by the way, was happily swimming in the pond as the fountains went off. If any one area got a little too turbulent the duck would simply swim to a different, calmer, area. The duck probably got a really good show. However my friend was fully excited... as I tried to watch and listen... She rapid fired more questions at me. Who designed this? How long did it take to construct? How many individual water rockets are there? Why did they place it right here? How often do they do maintenance? How do they clean the pond? How many people work on the crew that cleans the pond? How do they fix the water cannons? How far up in the air does the water go? How many pounds per square inch of pressure are there in the tallest fountains? In the shortest? Is it run by computer? etc... Now keeping in mind - I do not know these things, nor do I study fountain design or maintenance. I was simply there enjoying the show. (or trying to.) Finally I think I said something like - let's discuss later, I'm just so distracted by trying to watch this fountain show. I'm not trying to pick on anyone who is more animated than I am, btw. I know that neither personality type is right or wrong. And thus, for a short period of time, the phrase "The duck will be alright" became a thing in our circle of friends. This video isn't mine, as my camera got stolen in Vegas. However it looks like the ducks at the fountain impress other people, too.

I had a friend who ruined everything, for everyone else, by stewing in her worries and negativity! Her husband finally gave up and got out of their marriage:(

Good for the husband is what I say. It's hard to take someone constantly negative.

Ah that's a very good definition actually. Yes, she's very hyper... has a tenancy to ask many rapid fire questions and then get bored as you're trying to formulate an answer....

The Fountain was absolutely my favorite too! But I did not see ducks. The last time I was in Vegas was 2006.
