A Little Shaken Up

I'm unaccustomed to vitriol, so today when someone knocked on my front door and started calling me a "b****", I was taken aback. I wasn't going to answer the door with that kind of behavior, so I just sat in my living room and listened to my neighbor yell threats at me. I looked out the peephole and saw who I thought was my neighbor in the apartment next to me. She went back to her place, but came back later. I was in the bathroom at the time, but when I got out I went to the front door, but she was gone. A little while later I decided to go over and see what was going on. There was a guy about to go into that apartment, so I asked him if someone in his apartment had been trying to get me to come to the door. He said he didn't know, he was just getting home. So he opened the door, and asked the girl if she was trying to talk to me, and the girl came out. Apparently, she thought I called the cops on her last night. I didn't call the cops on her. I heard the commotion that prompted someone to call the police, but it wasn't me. It was a huge fight, and there was screaming, and just a lot of noise. But they have always been good neighbors to me, so I when I heard it I just went back to sleep. I guess not everyone did the same thing. I'm still kind of shaken up. I've never been around anyone who would behave that way. She said she had gotten drunk last night, and she apologized for what she had said through my door. She and her boyfriend have never been anything but nice to me. They are both probably in their mid twenties. I like them, and I guess I still do. But it was very disconcerting to experience the whole thing. Anyone go through anything similar? By the way, before I went over there I got my phone, hit the record button, and made sure to tape the whole thing. In case something bad happened I wanted proof that I hadn't done anything wrong. I still have no idea why they thought it was me who called the police.

At least you straightened it out. I've never encountered anything like that, but it would upset me quite a bit.

That is strange she would do that to you. I'm glad you got it sorted out.

I cannot ever imagine doing that to someone. My dad says it just means there are crazy people everywhere.

If she was drunk last night she might have thought it was you. But I wonder if she went to other doors and did the same thing. They need to be careful cause if their fighting continues the police will probably be called again. I can imagine how you felt when she was saying those things through the door. I hope that she comes to her senses.

Apparently, she told the neighbor across from her someone had called the cops on her. That neighbor immediately said I had done it because I'd called the cops because I had done it to other people. So she didn't bother getting more info, she went straight to me. I'm frustrated that people would point at me when I've never done that before. Rumors are dangerous things. I'm with you that someone could do it again if they keep it up.

@AmbiePam Rumors are very destructive. The other neighbor needs to learn to keep quiet until she knows the facts. Is she the type that likes to be in everyone's business?

I have never encountered that before but I would be upset at the assumption. Are there a lot of neighbors near by that may have called the cops? I'm glad everything is situated though.

It could have been 7 other neighbors, but they zeroed in on me.

@infatuatedbby I never make any noise. I'm very quiet which is why I think they believe I'm the cop caller.

Sorry so sorry this happened to your Ambie. You must have been quite taken aback yes, as usually they are civil to you. Does sound like in her drunken crap she just wanted to pick a fight. Well, that was smart of you to hit the record when you went over. No I haven't had any neighbors do that to me, but I have had drunks in my face before. Glad you are okay and that hopefully will be the last of it. If she or whoever comes to your door again anytime in the future, record that too. I admire that you went over to sort it out, but here in my place, that would not be wise..pretty bad people to deal with here. Be careful, as things can happen anywhere.

For some reason, I just have to get to the bottom of things. It eats at me if I don't find out why someone is angry with me. I mean usually I know why, and I go on about my business. Although, if it had been a guy, I would have gotten a man from my apartment office to go with me. I'm not so curious as to ask a man anything like that if he's yelling at me.

Something like that would scare the heck out of me..to the point I would probably want to move. I would not like that one bit!

I'm so sorry you went through that! I'd be shaken up too. I don't like confrontation anymore. When I was younger I didn't have a problem with it, but now I"d much rather avoid it.

I wonder why they thought it was me. Do they think the quietest people are most likely to call the police? I should have had you with me to face off with her!

I would be disturbed as well but I wouldn't like or trust them anymore, obviously, she has a whole side which you have never seen before.

I feel like now my every movement is being scrutinized. For a brief moment I thought about seeing if I could change apartments (not a different complex, just a different unit), but that's overreacting.

I would have called the cops when she ranted at my door. I know she apologized but I wouldn't have waited... I guess if she was always a good neighbor I would have to think twice before calling the cops. You did the right thing....

I think you were wise to record the whole thing. I'm sorry that happened. People act weird when they're drunk. Why they should assume it was you who called I have no idea, esp. when there are other neighbors around. At least she apologized. But still.... :/

Thankfully, we have no neighbors like that. I would be very wary of them in the future, I think the behavior was atrocious.
