Test Results Are In

United States

As some of you may remember, I posted about having to undergo genetic testing to see if I had the mutated genes that put me at risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer (as well as some other hereditary cancers.) This was to determine how to proceed with treating my endometriosis, as the specialist would recommend a complete hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy if the test came back positive. Anyway, earlier I received the test results, and I am happy to say they were NEGATIVE. Thank god! You have no idea how relieved I am. I was terrified that I would have to lose everything and also be recommended to undergo a preventative double-mastectomy if the results came back positive. So I am happy that they are negative! Plus I am just happy in general to know that I don't have those mutated genes and am at no higher risk for any of those cancers than the rest of the general population. Of course, that doesn't mean I can't or won't ever get those types of cancer, just that there's no higher risk for it. And for now I don't have to undergo any further surgery. That may change somewhere down the road if my symptoms get worse, but for now I'm going to try to keep treating the endometriosis with birth control. I'm currently taking a progesterone only pill since I get severe migraines with aura and estrogen always made them worse. It's too soon to say whether it's making any difference but I assume after a month or two I should be able to tell. The only thing I don't like about taking this birth control is that I've been having very bad brain fog and vision issues, but I don't know if that's even related. I've had these symptoms before (and am still trying to get a diagnosis for why they keep occurring) but I did notice that they flared up again once I started taking this new med. So, who knows. Anyway, I just wanted to share this good news with all of you. I am glad that I can now stop worrying about the outcome of that test and that I currently don't need to plan on any more surgeries.

@Courtlynn I am okay, just been really tired and having some problems with my eyes lately so been trying to stay off the computer too much (maybe it's just eye strain from staring at a screen so much.) How are you?

I'm very happy that the tests are negative. I guess you should consult with your doctor about the issue you're facing with those pills. Take care
