Can You Imagine?

Yesterday a toddler drowned in one of our canals locally. The adult watching the toddler turned away for just a moment to change the valve on their sprinklers and in that time the toddler got into the canal and drowned.
Can you imagine if you were the adult that was supposed to be watching this small child? I would be totally devastated.

I have heard that most of the big accidents that xhildren have are in their own house. This is terrible. I have known of many small children drowning in a home pool or living with mental problems because of the time they were with no oxygen.

I would be devastated. However, if I lived next to a dangerous canal and my child could easily access this canal I would have a fence around my yard. I still don't understand why they did not have a gated area for this child to play in. One that he could not get out of and walk to the canal.

I think some forethought could have been used here too. Like the fence.

@poehere .....We have a lot of lawn irrigation here. I used to play in the canal at my cousin's when I was a kid. We thought nothing of it. Little kids are at a real risk. It is easy for little ones to get carried off.

@celticeagle I remembered when I worked in Northern California and saw all the canals. They were amazing. I would watch them flood the fields. I could see on the road how dangerous they were. I saw some kids swimming in them. I never let my daughter go swimming in the canals. She was an excellent swimmer and had been swimming since she was less than 2 years old.

it would be horrible to know you mised a chance to save the child by such a close margin of error

I know I would cry a huge river if my toddler drowned while I was doing my work outside.

I think I would go through a myriad of emotions and one of those would be self hate.
