Why don't they call it won't power?

I have often wondered why don't they call it won't power instead of will power. Isn't it a matter of saying won't do something rather than you will? You know what I mean. I won't eat that piece of chocolate. I won't gain more weight. Being on a diet and trying to lose weight is making me crazy. I know willpower means you will not do something but wouldn't it be better to say you won't do something in particular. After all you do need to convince yourself that what you are thinking about is something you don't want to do. In other words just say no to temptation.

I wish you so much luck. One way to not give in - is to not buy the junk food. Now that summer is here, grab your water bottle, put on your walking shoes, and head out for a few hours. Take a long, lazy walk and enjoy the day. From what I understand one of the hardest parts about a diet is thinking about being on a diet. Maybe take a different look at this. Instead of calling it a diet - call it a healthy change of life. Treat the meals you cook as healthy meals and make more salads and veggies. In the end your desert can be 1/2 a baked potato with some button on it.

I am trying to do it that way. I have stopped buying junk food for me but the husband still likes to snack.

I hear you. I've been on a lifestyle change for about a year now. You are right. I won't bring candy of any description into my house, one day at a time, I won't. I refuse to. I wont bring in butter and almost all the time I won't bring cheese in to my fridge. I will say yes!!! to fresh fruits and vegies. I do make fruit pies about once a month- zero and I mean zero sugar added. (I've lost weight so this works for me.) I won't harm myself any longer. I like your post.

It's the positive factor I think. Will versus won't.

I think it has something to do with the use of the negative word. Will not or won't is negative. And they want people to stay positive so they use 'will'. Just saying...

When you are using your will power aren't you saying I will not?

So true, it's a simple reasoning, say no to temptations. I am very strict with myself when I am dieting.

I think it should be called 'won't power' too. I have plenty of will power. It's the won't power I'm short of.
