Praying This Tooth Can Hold Out

Last year I had a lot of dental work done which involved wisdom teeth extraction, tons of fillings, and a root canal for which I never got a permanent crown. A couple weeks ago while I was eating something I felt a giant chunk of amalgam come out of a filling. It feels like it was from the tooth right behind the root canal tooth. I now have this gaping hole in between the two molars and I try to ensure that it stays empty and cleaned out. I don't want to lose both teeth but until I am hired and hopefully given dental insurance I can't have anything fixed, we just can't afford it. That is the same reason for why I couldn't get a permanent crown put in. Have you ever gone without something you needed because of money troubles? Have you had it happen with something medical?
