Rat-filled ditch

Houses have ditches that carry unwanted dirty water from kitchen or bath room drains. Are we lucky or unlucky if the ditches are filled with hungry rats. Imagine if the ditch is rat-free; dirt would build up on the wall of the ditch. The rats exist in the ditch because the dirty water contains unwanted food that we dispose of through the drain.
