I Am Not Fast

I am at a point in my life where, if zombies attacked, I'd be dead. My family would have to save themselves and leave me behind because I just can't keep up. Two months before our latest addition was born, I was hit hard with sciatica in my right leg. Baby G is now five weeks old and my leg is taking it's sweet time healing. When I walk it's a strange, limping movement that seriously has me considering joining The Ministry of Silly Walks**. What's especially hard right now is that we're moving and have to be out of our rental on the 31st. That means lots of packing (I've got two boxes of books packed thus far) and cleaning (I'll let y'all imagine how grungy the walls can get with 6 kids in the house constantly touching and wiping their hands as they walk!). It used to be, when we moved, I could pretty much have the house packed up within a week. This time, however, I'm so slow that I'm a bit worried we won't make our move-out deadline. I keep imagining my husband and I throwing things into the moving van at the last minute. I now know exactly how Baymax feels when he says he is not fast. Have you had issues with sciatic pain? **A gold star if you know where The Ministry of Silly Walks comes from!

I did, I had to do stretches that the chiropractor recommended and take ibuprofen. Finally it went away. When I have any twinges now I immediately do the stretches. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm going to see my doctor this week and get okay'd for the chiropractor (I want to make sure I don't have a herniated disk or anything major, first). I've also been trying to stretch though, more often than not, it seems to aggravate the issue. I keep wondering if this is something that will constantly flare up in my life, now that it's been "activated"...?

Not me, but my husband has... And he's not fast either when the pain hit... Good luck with the packing, cleaning, moving, and all...

It's crazy how slow it can make a person! I've also discovered I currently walk like my grandma. I'm too young to feel this old!

@Genipher You are... My husband had to use a cane at some point to help him move, and even with that was still a very slow move... I hope it gets much better for you very soon...

@sishy7 I was considering a walker, while I was still pregnant...Yesterday I actually managed to walk through the store and it struck me that a cane might've been helpful after the baby was born. Thankfully, leaning on the cart helps a bit.

I never realized a nerve could be so painful and debilitating. How long did it last for you?

My wife is also a slow-moving Venusian. She takes 2 hours to dress up to attend Holy Mass on Sundays, while I only spend about half an hour to dress up. However, she could be a female counterpart of Jamaican sprinter Bolt if ever zombies attack. We used to live in a 10th floor apartment in downtown Calgary. One early morning the fire alarm went off . . . Everybody in the building were running down the stairs like scared rabbits. I carried our 2-year-old daughter and at the same time leading our 3 young sons going down the stairs as fast as we could. Then I remembered my wife . . . I yelled at our 3 sons to go ahead. I ran back to our apartment, wife was not there . . I panicked. But I got no choice but to save myself and my daughter from an inferno. At the ground our 3 small sons are waiting for us . . behind them was their mom! She ran for life like scared rabbit leaving us behind! That's my wife. . . . Fortunately, there was no inferno . . just false alarm.

Ha! Moving quickly seems to depend on the priorities, eh? She left you and the kids behind, though?

No gold stars for me. I've never heard of it. I'm slow too, not because of sciatica, but because of my weight. I hope it gets better soon so you will walk normal and move faster again.

Thanks. Since my sciatica was basically caused by the pregnancy, I'm hoping that as I lose weight, the pressure on that nerve will ease up.
