Favorite Power Ballads #1 - "Empty Rooms"

It's time to lay the power ballad to rest. #1 in my Favorite Power Ballads series belongs to "Empty Rooms" by Gary Moore. The late Irish guitar hero, Gary Moore, was an insanely talented guitarist who made his living as a hard rocker, singing lots of protest songs, before switching to the blues. Simply put, he wasn't a power ballad guy. Which is why "Empty Rooms" is so cool. Originally found on his album, Victims of the Future, Moore rerecorded it for his 1985 Run for Cover album. As a single, it performed decently, reaching #23 in the UK. As Song Facts put it, Moore's guitar solo on the song is widely considered his finest, which says something, because the guy could shred. Pull up the song on You Tube and more than one video says "best solo." As for me, I've linked to the version from the live album, We want Moore. It's the version I have on my iPod, and yes, the guitar solo is awesome! (Info verified by Wikipedia, Song Facts)

Interesting version. Liked Lost In Your Love better. But I'm just going on what I like to hear. As you mentioned this was not his strength. Excellent guitar solos!!!

@dgobucks226 - This guy had riffs to spare. I'm so glad I got to see him.

True, you don't expect to hear "power ballad" and "Gary Moore" in the same day, let alone same sentence. Can't deny the man's talent, through his own career and Thin Lizzy. Great series!!

That brings up a good question. Was Gary in Thin Lizzy when you saw them?

@teamfreak16 -- I hate to admit it, but yes, he was. Now you'll really hate me.

I always like when musicians try another style for song or even whole album. Usually pissing off their fans in the process. Keeps things from getting stale in my opinion. Cool power balled indeed. Nice melodic flow to it.

@teamfreak16 Could have, like Agnostic Front how they said when they started. I can do that and I can do it better.

It's almost like he did it just to prove that he could.

He wasn't really very popular over here. His big audience was Europe.
