"How long have US troops been in Korea?"

The answer is since 1950. But the point is that a senior military official (unnamed) answered with those words when asked how long we will be in Afghanistan. With a secret number (4000 by most accounts) of troops being added to the 8400 or so left, our mission is now to "win," "to kill terrorists," "to attack" in the words of our eloquent president last night. We had 100,000 troops there at one time and did not "win", though we did kill a lot of Afghan citizens, some presumably terrorists. Anyway, a journalist asked this senior military leader how long we might have troops in Afghanistan and he answered with the title question. We've been fighting and dying and killing there for 17 years now. Not long enough, I guess.

As long as rich white guys are profiting, the war will continue. Just my opinion.

I have learned to admire our brave men and women who serve our military since they do the work of guarding over freedoms which is not free. Much less having to endure long stays in another nation.

It is very unclear now what the mission is that they risk their lives for in this place we should never have invaded.

Funny, we realize that what is not working in our vehicles or computers needs to be replaced but we are not applying the same logic to our "not working policies". We do need to think out of box...both India and America. Merely waging wars is like somebody in kindergarten.

Why to send more troops there? It's not a country where he can win, he only risks to lose more young men who would be better with their families.

The troops are making sacrifice, being away from their family without knowing when they will be home, sigh
