I am here to tell you, you absolutely don't get much sleep when doing a sleep test. With all the wires and such attached to your body and trying to relax in a strange bed, it is really hard to sleep.
It took me over an hour after "lights out" to start relaxing enough to start thinking about sleep. Once I went to sleep the tech woe me up to have me roll onto my back. I am a side sleeper and you get better results sleeping on your back.
The results of all of this is I slept some but not as much as they wanted. The results will go to my doctor and he will let me know what I need after he looks at them.
So after leaving the center at 5:30 this morning, I washed the stuff out of my hair and went to bed.
Boy am I tired.

Yikes! I don't blame you for being tired. I definitely can't sleep on my back, unless I roll over in my sleep. I'm a side sleeper, too. Hope the little sleep you got was enough for the doctor to read. I'm certain you will sleep well tonight!

I don't see how they expect anyone to sleep with all of those things connected to your head. When Adam was having seizures they put one of those things on his head and wanted me to get him to sleep while we were in the doctor's office. You can imagine how that went with a toddler. I hope that your doctor will be able to figure out something for you.

@HazySue I am sure they will. Perhaps they will let you bring an apparatus home. When we took Adam to the neurologist at UNC children's hospital, they wired him up and let him bring the machine home in a pack that resembled a fanny pack. He finally got tired enough to go to sleep that way. Of course, it would be totally different as an adult to try and sleep with all of those devices on the head.

@Shellyann36 they want to watch a monitor to see how long I stop breathing and how often.

Will they get the result they needed even if you didn't sleep enough?

@HazySue One of my kids did something similar two decades ago. His father was with him so I didn't know the exact procedure. (I had some other toddlers to care for.) In our case, my kid had no problem whatsoever (he had a very good sleep) just as I had told everyone. The doctor who persistently sent my kid there, was red in the face with the result for doubting me!

I had one of those tests years ago but it was done in my home. The tech brought the machine and hooked the wires to my face and left. I just had to plug them into the machine when I went to bed. But I got hungry so I made a sandwich and as I was eating it I thought I was chewing on something strange. So I reached in my mouth and pulled it out - it was one of the wires - it had somehow gotten into my mouth with the sandwich I was eating. ew
No problem, I just wiped it off and everything was fine after that. And the test came out okay, I didn't have any problems. But I sure didn't sleep good at all that night. That was way back in 1991, I'm sure they do it differently now. Maybe you can get some sleep in today.
