Day 5
Isaiah 5
5:1 Now will I sing to my well beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
2 And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
6 And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.
8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!
9 In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.
10 Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah.
11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
12 And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.
14 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoices, shall descend into it.
15 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:
16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
17 Then shall the lambs feed after their manner, and the waste places of the fat ones shall strangers eat.
18 Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:
19 That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!
22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:
23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
24 Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25 Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcasses were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
26 And he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss unto them from the end of the earth: and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:
27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:
28 Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses’ hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:
29 Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.
30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold darkness and sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.
Have you felt the love of someone who would give you anything you wanted, but you dismissed him or her, or took them for granted?
Isaiah told the people an allegory about God’s love for his people. God wanted to bless Israel because he loved them so much. There was nothing God wouldn’t do for them. However, Israel abused God’s love so much that God took his love and protection from them, and promised to send them into exile.
When Solomon finished building the temple, he prayed a prayer of blessing and sanctification to God.
2 Chronicles 7:12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for a house of sacrifice.
13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there forever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to everyone that passes by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
God does not take disobedience lightly, any more than your parents tolerated disobedience from you. God is your heavenly Father. His promises are eternal, and so is his judgment. However, God does also promise that if you repent, he will forgive.
It was approximately 2500 years between the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden and Mt. Sinai where God gave Moses the Ten Commandments. Twenty-five-hundred years where man wavered between faith and unbelief. When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, God gave his people for the first time, the set of laws by which he would govern his people. Laws they were to obey, and if they did so, they would reap the blessings of an obedient life. Isaiah’s vision and prophecy was approximately 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Isaiah’s prophecy regarding Israel’s exile due to their disobedience to God was approximately 200 years before God finally fulfilled his promise to bring consequences against Israel for their disobedience.
How long do you wait before you discipline your children? Do you give your children many chances to change their behavior before you finally lay down the law with them? Or do you discipline immediately?
Through Israel’s long history, you see how some of God’s judgment was immediate, and unrelenting. Yet, when it came to Israel’s infatuation with false gods, God gave them warnings about what he would do, until the time came for him to send his people into exile.
When Isaiah prophesied about the coming exile, warning the people about God’s coming punishment for their sin, Israel hadn’t gotten to the place yet where God had no choice but to punish them.
God loves his people. God loves you. He will give you every chance to get to know him, or return to him. He sent his Son, Jesus, to die on a cross, so you can receive salvation and be right before him.
As Christians, you have the right to forgiveness and the blessings of God. When you sin, all you need to do is confess your sin and God will forgive you.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV)
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV)
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (KJV)
God doesn’t want you to spend eternity in hell. His Son, Jesus, paid the price for you to go to heaven. Have you given your life to God, to live according to his will? If not, you are a prayer and thought away from making Jesus your Savior and Lord, and making heaven your home to be with God forever.
Let’s pray: Father, help me be faithful to your calling on my life. Help me be obedient to your Word, your will, and your way. Let me be a light and inspiration to everyone who sees and interacts with me, so they know you are in me, and are my source of total joy. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Our country wants it both ways; we want to do what we want, but we want God to help us when we call on Him. It's shocking how immoral the world is becoming. I feel like I say that all the time, but it's just true. And it's easy for me to lose sight of my goal in life: to serve the Lord. Thank you for the reminder today.

Yes, it's a promise that no matter how bad we mess up, God will always forgive us when we repent.
