Diary 30th August to 1st September 2017

Diary Wednesday 30th August 2017 A busier time in my life starting today. I volunteered to help out at an open day at the community centre as the Ingol district of Preston was celebrating its fiftieth anniversary as the first houses went up here in 1967. I helped set stalls up and promoted quiz sheet for a prize draw little hamper based on questions about events in the last fifty years. I met lot of lovely people and chatted with a local bee-keeper who came along with many of his hive bees to show off his work. After the events I helped take things down too. I got a free lunch at the centre’s café for helping out too. Though I have only been in Ingol, Preston for one year it felt great to be part of the longer history. Diary Thursday 31st August 2017 The final day of the month, and my pay day from the welfare services, but as ever much of my money vanished quickly in direct debit bill payments. I had a lot of job hunting to do, especially with doing so much voluntary work yesterday. One job lead I pursued was for a job I actually want, possible Xmas work with the Post Office, which I have done before. It involved filling in a lengthy application form, but it could be weeks before I hear back from them. Diary Friday 1st September 2017 A new month and the return of great sunshine, which was handy as I was on a community centre bus journey to Freckleton and Lytham. The Freckleton trip was to visit and offer our respects at the memorial to victims of the 1944 plane crash there which I recently presented a paper about to the community centre attendees. This was a chance to show them the locations of the terrible events that claimed 61 live, many of them infant children. From Freckleton, we went on to Lytham, on the Fylde Coast of England, near Blackpool. We split up to explore independently. I visited a two hundred year old windmill that is now a museum. You can go in, and see how corn and wheat could be grinded there. I got more pub signs, ate in one of the best fish and chip shop I ever visited, went round some charity shops and a lovely art gallery, before calling in a very nice pub, The Ship And Royal before re-joining the bus for our journey home. A huge thanks to Verity, Pete and everyone at the Intact Community Centre for helping to organize a lovely day, well three terrific days actually. Arthur Chappell

Nice to hear you are enjoying life and getting into the swing of things there in Preston. I remember you posting about the Christmas job at the post office. Hope you can do that again. The coastal area there sounds interesting.
