WhatsApp Turned Off on Holidays

Smart phones are communication tools. We can get connected any time. However, there are people who turn off their mobile phones when having a holiday. We understand this as they don't want to be disturbed by messages or phone calls.
As a mobile phone user, I often notice this. For example, we communicate via WhatsApp and we know if the WhatsApp is turned off. As soon as we send the message, we will see a single check mark at the end of the message we sent. If it changes to double check mark, we know that the message has arrived at the destination. And when the double check mark turns blue, we know it's been read.
Why should they turn off the WhatsApp? Does it disturb them?

In my case, its Skype. Thank goodness there's no indication if a message has been read like "seen" or what in Skype. I dont have to turn it off in my day offs.

WhatsApp is more popular nowadays. Easier to read and does not take up lots of space like Skype.

They can make the sound silent, actually without turning it off. Who knows there are important or urgent messages.
