School Field Trips From My Childhood: First Grade

In first grade we had a lot of farm-based field trips. We went to a dairy farm and the farmer informed us that within the next five years, we would all have eaten one of the cows on his farm. That disturbed me and I think that was a really weird thing to tell a bunch of first graders, especially knowing there were a bunch of Sikh and Hindu kids in my class, who didn't eat meat.
We also went to the Bonanza Seed farm and cannery, which was a disappointment to me. You see I thought we were going to visit the set of Bonanza, and that I was going to get to meet Little Joe and Hoss.
I was very angry that the "ranch" we'd visited was not, in fact, the ranch from the TV show, and instead I had to spend my day learning about how they canned fruit and removed seeds from things like cantaloupes. We each got an empty Bonanza Seed can as a souvenir. I remember on the bus ride back to the school, we passed by a billboard for the Bonanza Inn, and I furiously thought "Dumb ol' Bonanza, I guess they're everywhere now."
We also went to Art Day at the high school when I was in first grade. I got separated from my group on that field trip and freaked out that I would be lost forever. Luckily I found another group of kids from my class and they returned me to my chaperone, who hadn't even noticed I was missing.
(Thanks to @Courtlynn for the inspiration for this post series.)

That really is not something to tell kids. What is wrong with people.

Yeah, and then they fed us hamburgers for lunch.
It was indeed heartbreaking.
But at least it gave me a funny story to tell later on.
It was terrifying being lost as a kid! I hope you do post about the time you got lost. I look forward to reading it (although I'm sorry that also happened to you!)

@Courtlynn I misunderstood things a lot as a kid...which make some of my most hilarious stories now as an adult.
Sometimes the most scary or heartbreaking things that happened to us when we were little turn out to be really funny.
