Finally Saw the New "IT"

Tonight my boyfriend and I finally got to see the new IT. I really liked it. Although Tim Curry will always be Pennywise the Clown to me, I think Bill SkarsgÄrd did an excellent job portraying the character. The new movie is more engaging than the old miniseries and, in my opinion, a lot more scary. The old one didn't scare me at all, even as a kid, but this one got my heart beating a little harder than usual in a few places. The kids in it all did a great job portraying their characters and it made me feel nostalgic for my own childhood, since this version takes place in the '80s, when I was a kid, rather than the '50s like the old one did (as well as in the book.)
I hope that the second movie is as good as the first half, because as a kid I hated the second half of the miniseries. It was boring and didn't really hold my attention. I think that this newer version did a better job at making me believe that there was an ancient evil terrorizing the town and also did a better job showing how it was messing with the kids' heads and playing off their fears.
Anyway, if you were considering seeing this movie or were unsure about seeing it, I say give it a go. It is a bit gorier and more violent than the old version with Tim Curry, as obviously that one had to be tamed down for '90s television. But it wasn't unnecessarily gory or anything. I still won't be having nightmares from IT, as I am not afraid of clowns and never have been. But I'm sure my brother and sister, both who were afraid of IT, would be even more traumatized by this adaptation, so if you have a lifelong fear of clowns due to the old movie, then I'd recommend not seeing IT.

Now I want to rewatch the old one and compare the two. I also want to read the book but it's so expensive for the kindle edition. Sucks because a few months back my sister offered to get me a free hardback copy and I said nah, and now I can't find it anywhere to even borrow it...there's a wait list a mile long at all the libraries in our local system. Probably because the new movie came out. I may just suck it up and buy the ebook for $11.99 but I hate paying that much for an ebook, especially one that's over 30 years old and knowing that Stephen King probably won't even get much royalties from it (not that he seems to be hurting for money or anything, but when I buy ebooks, or even print books, I like to know that the author is benefiting from it, and not some publishing house that's just marking it up at a higher price so they can make more money on it.)

@Courtlynn I have. Our local library doesn't have it. I put a hold on the ebook copy at the library and last I checked I was number 19 in line. So maybe I'll get it next year.

I never found clowns amusing as a kid, but that was about it. I thought they were stupid and not funny. One of my brothers was terrified of clowns, which always embarrassed me when he would have a meltdown in public if there was a clown present. He and my sister are both afraid of Pennywise from the movie. I had fun as a kid tormenting them over IT.
It is a pretty scary movie. Much scarier than the old version. I liked the clown's makeup better in the old one, though. This one seems like they tried to hard to make him look creepy. But it works for the movie.

@Marty1 The clowns I saw must have just not have been very good. Clowns on TV and in movies were always much funnier. When I got older I wanted to be a clown. I actually took some clowning classes.

I know many people who refuse to watch IT, since the old one scared them. This one is definitely scarier!
