The postman just scared me to death

I've been waiting for a washing machine part to arrive - it's a drum paddle, the other two are loose as well so at some point I'll have to fork out another two lots of £20 to replace them, but it's cheaper than paying the manufacturers £200 to come and do it for me.
My front door is never unlocked, but I left it unlocked today just so I could open the door speedily when it got here, and when the postman knocked he didn't even wait as much as a split second before he burst through the door! He scared the life out of me!
I'm here on my own with my baby so I'm paranoid enough as it is, without some stranger suddenly letting himself into my house without waiting for me to open the door to him
He said he was going to leave the package in the porch if I wasn't in, and although that wouldn't have worked because the door would be locked if I was out, I do appreciate how helpful it would have been for him to leave it. But why knock and then INSTANTLY open the door, and with such force???
My heart's still beating like mad, more out of anger now. Obviously I know he didn't mean any harm at all but come on, nobody's in so much of a rush that they can't wait three seconds to allow someone to respond to a knock at the door

I will feel the same like you and report him right away to her boss that he must be informed that it`s not good trying to open and entering customers doors without getting any answers or permissions

@LilyBeBack Yes and he must be aware of that
Did you tell him about your feelings?

@m_audrey6788 I was so stunned that I didn’t really say anything at all, I didn't even reach out to take the package. I know I sound dramatic because he wasn't there to hurt me, but it was the sudden opening of the door that made me jump and I had a massive burst of adrenaline and it left me shaking and my heart beating like mad. I hope he never does that to someone with a heart condition, or PTSD!

I can understand that he wanted to be helpful and leave the package if I wasn't home, but I was home, he just didn’t give me a chance to even get up out of my seat before he burst in! It's my house, I could have been getting changed or trying to get my baby to sleep for all he knew

He would want to watch himself over here opening someones door, the poor fellow may not live.

I just wish he had at least waited a few seconds for me to open the door, I was sitting three feet away but didn't even get the chance to stand up fully before he burst in

I am Sorry, but this is not considered appropriate. Not even sure where he got that from, and you have every right to be Scared. Personally I would be wanting to keep my door locked from now on if it was me.

@LilyBeBack I think that's the best way to do it. However, if he does it again; then you really need to take action about it.

Probably one of the impatient people around thinking that it would be quick to open for himself rather than wait.It could also be that he does so in other homes especially if he's a common figure that route.Hope you let him know that was not okay.

I was a bit stunned and didn't say much, he saw how much he'd scared me though and he didn't make any attempt at an apology. I'd be mortified if I'd made somebody feel like that
I do have to give him the benefit of the doubt though, but he won't be getting the chance to do that again

@LilyBeBack The least he could have done is apologise, you may not want to but I think it would be good to report him to his superiors. If he had apologised that would probably be different or maybe if he brings a package again let him know and from his response decide if you will report him or not.

@chunchunwadaddy I spoke to my mam about it and she said they do the same thing at her house. It's no excuse but I think they must be under a lot of pressure to hit targets and get everything delivered on time
He still should have apologised though
