Comping, is it even worth it?

By Comping I mean, the 'hobby' as some call it, of entering competitions. I've been doing this for well over a few months now and I'm starting to think it's all just a sham. I enter at least 1-3 competitions per day, through a website I use that lists them and I can honestly say I've not won anything, nor have I been at least informed that "I'm sorry but you weren't a winner, this time".
That little message in an email would be enough, you know? To know at least, that the time I spend filling out the competition form is not completely wasted.
Does anyone else 'comp'? If so, have you ever won anything??
Frustrated.

In the 1980s I focused on caption competitions (Punch and New Statesman magazines, TV-am, all now gone) and won regularly. This eventually led to a career as a comedy writer. I think it's a good idea to focus on one particular type of comp, preferably with a degree of skill rather than just a prize draw, and then seek out as many as possible.
