spaghetti sauce in the crockpot

In an effort to make my day easier, I'm simmering spaghetti sauce in the crockpot right now. Only this isn't "from scratch" sauce. Or, not really. I've poured a jar of sauce into the crockpot. I'm going to add some precooked meat to it in a bit, and now I don't have to worry about watching the stove with small kids underfoot, and only have to cook pasta shortly before dinner. I'm considering this an act of genius and not of laziness.

I was able to get it started a whole lot earlier too, when they were out of the house and I had a few minutes quiet.

@andriaperry It was about 30 minutes, and all too brief, but I got it.

@spiderdust I have a Crockpot and a slow-cooker. I don't know the difference, but I'm shipping one to our place in Florida. Plan to do your sauce!!!!

@DianneN Crockpot is a slow cooker brand name, but a lot of people just call all of them "crockpot". I actually have both a Crockpot and a Hamilton-Beech slow cooker.

I put a simple salad on the side, plus carrot and celery sticks for the kids who turn their noses up at salad.

I'd have to heat up the sauce anyway, and this saves me space on the stove too.

I use very old clay pots to make my sauce, it cooks very very slowly there, I only have a look a few times.

My basic spaghetti sauce generally involves "pre-made" spaghetti sauce, to which I add onions, garlic, some beef (sometimes), and some 'shrooms.

I love adding mushrooms, but I'm met with torches and pitchforks if anyone recognizes one in the sauce. When I have them, I blitz them in the food processor and saute them along with the ground beef. It adds the flavor, but no one can tell them apart from the beef.

Very interesting. I have never made spaghetti or sauce in the crock pot. I read once that meatloaf can be made in the crock pot but so far have not tried.

@spiderdust Thanks Kelli, maybe I should not do meatloaf in the crockpot then. I got ground beef but instead of making meatloaf I will make sloppy joes.

@Hannihar I still think it's worth giving a try.

I've done it, but prefer meatloaf baked in the oven. It tends to "steam" rather than roast in the Crock-Pot.
