The religious worker

I have no right to pass negative judgement on anyone for practicing any faith, but I do have to express some health concerns and literally need to force my eyebrow from climbing to the top of my forehead with this one... So I work with a guy who's a very religious christian, which is all fine and dandy... that's his favorite cup of tea, and I find it great that he has morals and faith. But this get's a little weird... This guy prays on the dirty bathroom floor, right in front of the toilet.... He puts his elbows on the contaminated toilet seat which is probably coated with millions of fecal bacterial organisms, and his knees on the floor before the toilet on the pee stained floor.. ( I work in a factory... so I wouldn't doubt that the people are slobs who can't aim). I only know he does this because he leaves the stall wide open, or if I sit in the stall next to him, I can see his knees... haha What do you think? I feel like it's something that could get him sick... or I question why he doesn't just pray on his lunch break in a cleaner area... maybe that's just me

That does sound very odd. Have you asked him about it?

I understand why he does it.. he's very very serious about his faith, he reads pages of the bible on his lunch break, plays christian music at work, "sings to god" while he's working... his life revolves around his religion... which is ok... not the way I would want to live, personally, but to each his own. I haven't directly asked him about it, I suppose I already understand... other than the location of where he does it... I feel like it would be better for him to wait until he can do it in a more sanitary environment.. like at lunch, or even waiting till he gets home...

@Mr_Anomaly But I'm curious as to why he prays there on the floor of the bathroom.

@1creekgirl My guess is that it's because there aren't any places to pray during work hours that he can have a 1 on 1 conversation with god. We have to stay busy there or else we get in trouble, the bathroom sounds like the only place he can hide out and pray.. but even still... there's lunch time, where he could pray virtually anywhere. It doesn't bother me that he prays... but I don't think god would want him to get himself sick haha

I do pray in toilet too but not kneeling down. Just sit on the toilet seat and clasp my hand together to pray. Is that dirty too?

Noo not so much, I was thinking about all of the germs on the floor and around the toilet that could make him sick that he's putting his knees and clothing in. I feel that doing what you described is a lot more common than kneeling there

That is a weird place to pray? Do you know what kind of religion he practices?

It sounds strange. But I think it is nice to ask him about it.

@Mr_Anomaly I think if we do a perfect timing, then there will be no issues.

@Mr_Anomaly That's what I was thinking too. It would be good to ask him and also mention your concerns about the bacteria, but I'd also be worried about offending him. It might be quite awkward to bring up the subject!

I'm considering asking him... couldn't hurt to ask. I just don't want to come off as rude I suppose..

Maybe he thinks God will protect him from catching anything? That is extremely unhygienic.

@Mr_Anomaly Hopefully....and hopefully he doesn't get anyone else sick! Hep A could easily get spread that way. I would be concerned about the other people/things at work he is coming into contact with since he's getting all those nasty germs on his clothes.

I'm a very committed Christian and I sure wouldn't do that. I think it might be good if he wants to kneel, to find him a better small hidden place for him to pray? It's good to pray and he might even be praying for you! Also, did you know there are more bad bacteria in a kitchen sponge than on a toilet seat? So I read somewhere on the Internet...

Yes, if he could find a cleaner location, that would be much much better for his health, I have no problem with him praying, I just worry that he could get sick and find it to be an odd location for prayer.

That is strange. I know religion is often associated with the concept of purity and all. To pray in an environment like that is definitely odd.

Agree... some have their choice places of prayer I suppose... I don't know how the church views things like this though...
