Complications

I've taken care of everything I need to regarding Freedom's Cry. But one thing I need is to have control of Scarred, and I don't have that. But I will. What that means is that I will need to re-publish Scarred. I know, headache. But it will be good because I'll be able to order the copies instead of having it go through someone else - i.e. my recent editors. So I will have two books published in the very near future. I did talk to the group last night at Writer's Guild and asked for someone to read it to make certain it was okay. No volunteers. That's okay. I'm confident with it, and it, too, will get published. One thing that is good about Scarred is that I can get rid of the line space that is in the middle of a paragraph at the opening of one of the chapters. How they did that I have no idea, but it's there, but not in my original manuscript. I don't know if this whole situation has made me a firm believer in self-publishing or if I want to try the traditional publishing route. I've been giving that some thought as well. I like control of my books. Do you have complications in your life? Thanks for reading.

I always like to have control of everything so I think it is a good idea. No complications here at least nothing worth noting.

I have always felt loathe to lose control after being told by a person interested in my books to take everything God told me to publish down. Nor do I want to paper my walls, like Virginia Woolf with rejection slips. These days, most of us seem to be self-publishing anyway and I am sure you made a prayerful decision. Even if it goes wrong, God will sort it. I am still struggling with the relationship book and somehow not getting the one you kindly read for me out, but I will soon.

@just4him I have to overcome my fear of publishing it. Trouble is that I'm such a perfectionist and I keep on thinking that it won't be good enough to be seen on the shelves and yet you and another lady who has also read it and who loved it keep encouraging me. I really do have to get back on the horse so to speak with my writing because I have such a lot to publish and I really do need to actually earn some money as well. It's crazy because I buy books off the Internet all the time and realise that they aren't perfect even when they're done by a main publisher and yet I am so scared not to be perfect but I know it's ridiculous. Just at the moment I have the relationship one the one you read, and a book on parties all ready to go. Are you going to set up a website to sell your books and a Facebook page and Twitter and so on because I think all of those are now needed in order to make any sales at all? I think I understand is that we need to build up email lists so I'm trying to think of a nice way of emailing all my friends and explaining I actually need them to buy my books and to pass the advert on too their friends

@Jackalyn I did have a Facebook Page. I hadn't posted on Twitter about my books, but I could. I do have a blog site, but I might let it go and set up another that I can keep better track of. I know a lot of people write on Word Press or Blog dot com. I had Word Press many years ago, but I let it go. I know that fear. For me it was the fear of rejection, basically the same as what you are facing. However, I took the bull by the horns one day after reading Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul in which there was a whole chapter on self-publishing, and swallowed my fear and looked for an agent, and Scarred became a fact. I was surprised at how well it did and the number of 5 star reviews it got. It doesn't have a whole lot, but for an unknown, who has no marketing skills, it did well. I'm hoping that with the series completed and the last book published, which I'll start that process today, I will get more sales on all four books. So just take a deep breath and get it done. I publish through CreateSpace. You can do it for free on that site, which is also an Amazon company.

I didn't realize I didn't have control of Scarred. As of tomorrow, I will have full control of it again. I've heard about Virginia Woolf and her rejections slips. I did a lot of praying before I sent that first e-mail telling them I would be handling Freedom's Cry from now on. I wasn't prepared for all their duplicity. So I really do feel God in this situation. I'll be glad to have it published soon. I expect both will be available by the end of the month, though Scarred is available. I just need to re-publish it. I hope you can get that book published soon. It's very good and I was happy to read it for you.

Thank you. I need to wait until tomorrow to start the publishing process for Scarred, and I want to get that one taken care of before I publish Freedom's Cry.

@Courtlynn The editor is e-mailing me the documents for Scarred, at least that was my understanding. I could probably take care of it now, but I need to know what it is she's e-mailing me regarding it.

It will, once I have it back in my hands. I should start getting the publishing taken care of tomorrow, so it won't be long before both books are available again. I just hope it won't be confusing to have two different copies of Scarred available.

@RubyHawk I got the e-mail from her today. She said they'll be taking the copy I published with them down. I just got it uploaded to CreateSpace. That process took a lot longer than I anticipated. Tomorrow I'll get Freedom's Cry uploaded. I expect that one will take a little longer to publish, as I will need to go through the PDF edit thoroughly to make certain I didn't miss anything.

No and I am so glad I don't. I hope you get it all straightened out to your satisfaction. I have leaned towards self publishing for a time.

Though I've always wanted to be traditionally published, I think I'm going to stick with self-publishing.

@just4him I used to think that traditional publishing was the best way but have slowly changed my mind.

Our pastor published a book and I'm not sure where Andy had it done. He was very satisfied, with that publishing company.

@kobesbuddy It's hard to sell books through self-publishing unless you have great marketing skills.

Lol, I wasn't going to say it - but yeah my complication in my life is my dad. *sigh* I hope everything goes smoothly for you. COntrol is good, but like you note, sometimes comes with more work. Are any of your books in audio format?

@just4him Hm, I do wonder what the process. I've thought that doing voice work would be interesting. Probably more difficult than it seems. Thanks for the thought.
